No, no, not the radiator support. There is a front cover that is over top of the radiator support. It is held in with four plastic screw type clips. Once that is off, you should be able to reach behind the bulb housing and be able to change the bulb. It is tight in there, I'm sure tighter for the xenon than the standard halogen, but it is possible.

Yes the bulb and burner can be changed if thats it. The ballast also go bad and you have to pull the assmly out to replace that. And have fun finding a new hid assembly for $500. More like $900-1100ea. But if yours is broken internally, (grab the elect connector to the high beam behind the assembly, if it moves around its broken) see my thread on stype headlight repair

What about an XJ8 repair? I have a 2004 I had replaced the bulbs with a 100W H7 that stated that it didn't need any kit, just a direct replacement. They have worked well but the drivers side low beam with out. I went to replace it and the connector crumbled in my hand and had melted as well. I think that I will take them all back to factory bulbs but I need to replace the connector. can I get any H7 connector? I saw sow high temp connectors online, will those work for the higher watt bulbs?
