ZF 6HP26 Output Speed sensor Location

Folks,
I have a 2006 S-Type 3.0 and the transmission has been acting up and twice has gone into "limp home" mode- 2nd gear only. A friend who owns a local shop checked the codes, there were several. The main culprit he said was P0721. He says the output shaft speed sensor needs changing. I will change it, but is it located in the transmission or externally? I ordered one online, messaging with the vendor's tech help to make sure it was the right one for our car. It came in and it sure looks like it is made for external mount and I thought the ZF 6HP26 speed sensor was internal. Anyone know for sure?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Have a Jaguar specialist or competent transmission shop inspect the gearbox as the fluid must be drained and the pan removed. The output speed sensor is located on the transmission control module (TCM) and main control valve body unit.

I think we might be talking past each other a bit?
Yes the ZF transmission has an output shaft speed sensor. Note this is NOT a VSS! It does not read the vehicle speed only the rpm of the output shaft. Mainly used to compare to the input shaft RPM (which is turning the same speed as the engine since the TQ is bolted directly to the engine. This allows the transmission to know exactly how much slippage there is between the input and output of the transmission to set error codes and adjust other transmission parameter's as the transmission wears over time.
Jaguar uses the ABS data for the VSS input.
So I don't think there is a separate VSS?
Anyone find one? I have looked but maybe missed it?

Jaggiegal,
I can't find where the sensor came from, which means I bought it online as a "guest" for there is no history of this purchase at online sellers that I have an account with, and I do this occasionally. As I said, I do not remember putting the part in but I sold it 3 months later; it was running good and I had contact with the buyer for months after that. If it would have acted up he definitely would have told me. So, if the output shaft speed sensor was inside the transmission I think would definitely remember having to refill the transmission. I changed the filter (molded into the pan) and fluid once and it was a meticulous, pain in the neck process. Something I would probably remember if I had done it a second time.
Sorry, but that I can pull up from this old brain of mine.
