ZF6HP26 transmission swap between S Type 2.7 and STR
Dear members !
Collecting parts for future needs and have access to My 2005 S Type 2.7 ZF6HP26 transmission to fit My 2002 STR some day.
Transmission model is the same ZF6HP26, that I know, but is it strait forward swap or is there some things to consider or would it fit in the first place ?
Thank You for replies !
Regards
Janne

The torque converter is different and the TCM programming is different.
The TCM you should be able to sort out by reflashing with SDD. There is a different part number for the torque converter between R and N/A but I couldn't tell you what is truly different about it or if it would even matter.

According to wiki the 6HP26 as used in a BMW petrol or diesels, only differs in final drive, so would asume same for most applications, except AWD:
Gear ratios:
1 2 3 4 5 6 R
4.171:1, 2.34:1, 1.521:1, 1.143:1 ,0.867:1, 0.691:1 ,3.40:1
FINAL DRIVE:
2.81:1 (BMW 335d) / 3.65:1 (BMW X5 xDrive35d) / 3.46:1 (BMW non-diesel cars.

I asked a Jaguar tech a while ago about swapping transmissions. He told me that the internals are different for the different engines and that the STR trans is heavier duty than the trans in the 3.0 or NA 4.2 models. I don't know how much torque the diesel engines put out, but if it's less than 400 ft lbs you'd probably have to stick to a STR transmission.
