Default New UK F-Type R Coupe Owner

Hi people.

I've finally bit the bullet and got my self a 2014 F-Type R. Needed to free up a bit of money so sold a 2008 Gallardo and a 2014 M5. The F-Type seems to fit the bill, an everyday car that is loads of fun and can be used for the odd track day. Put a deposit on it today and pick it up the week after next. I can't believe how much better than the Gallardo it is to drive.

Couple of questions!

Looking for a few mods and just wondering what to buy and where to buy it from.

1) Supercharger Pulley
2) ECU Mapping
3) Lowering springs
4) Wheel spacers (15mm or 20mm?)

Also the car is white, which is not my first choice, but the miles are low and the price is fantastic so I really couldn't resist. Will be getting it wrapped, most likely in Audi Nardo Grey.

Anything else I should know as a new owner?

Thanks,

Sam

1. a) 60.5-62.0mm upper (66mm OEM) available from Mina Gallery, Eurotoys, Eurocharger, VelocityAP.
b) 162mm lower (152mm OEM) available from Velocity AP, Eurotoys, maybe others. 170mm available from Eurotoys
2. Tune available from several and a lot of discussion on this forum that you have to sort through. Most are doing remote tunes (I'm not certain how effective this is). I would suggest a tuner with their own dyno to dial in your specific car.
3. Velocity AP (0.9"), H&R (1.2-1.5")
4. 15mm

Perfect! Thanks for the help!

Would you go for a 60.5mm or a 62mm upper? What would the power/driving difference be?

Would you choose Velocity AP over H&R? What do you have on yours, as the ride height seems perfect! I don't want the tyre to be tucked.

Thanks again!

And what would the difference between a 170mm and 162mm lower pulley be?

Last question I promise!

Thanks!

Stance on the H&R springs is just about perfect with 15mm spacers.

That question is for your tuner to answer. Consider the following: Though the upper pulley is cheaper than a new lower pulley, the lower pulley far is easier and cheaper to replace (labor).

The following pulley combos result in the following increases in supercharger speed (the TVS 1900R on the V8s are still efficient at those higher speeds):

Lower Dia. Upper Dia. SC RPM incr.
152 66 0%
152 62 6%
152 60.5 9%
162 66 7%
162 62 13%
162 60.5 16%
170 66 12%
170 62 19%
170 60.5 22%
With a good tune and the right increase in blower pressure, you should have no problem seeing bhp crank horsepower well north of 600 hp on any V8 (V8S or V8R).

+1. That's what I've done with mine and I believe it's optimal. Many are concerned the extra half inch drop over the Velocity AP is an issue for ground clearance. I have not found it to be so even with the potholes and bumpy roads we have in MD. Steep driveways are a valid concern if you encounter them (have to approach from an angle).

That looks fantastic, love the colour!

I've ordered 15mm Spacers, H&R's and Michilen Pilot Super Sports.

Do people do both upper and lower? By the looks of the stats I should see a good increase with a 60.5mm upper and a 170mm lower together with a custom map? Is there no negatives to doing this? Do you know at what % increase the supercharger starts to become inefficient?

Just need to find a good UK tuner now!

Regarding the tune, I think you have gotten the right/good answeres.

But just a comment on the side. The R coupe came in 2014 as a 2015 model. The 2014 F-type came only as a cab, so your R coupe has to be a 2015 mod

I was confused by this too until a couple of months ago when someone else from the UK mentioned the 2014 R Coupe. Apparently in the UK, model year designation is a function of when the car receives it's plate.

As far as I can tell, everywhere else the first R coupes are considered 2015s.

At least from Jaguar the official year designation for the first F-type coupe models was 2015 (even though the first ones was delivered in mid/late 2014). The same with the cabs. The first ones were delivered from mid 2013, but (according to Jaguar) they were 2014 models and onwards.

Right, but in the UK, some pre-owned first MY cars are marketed as 13s (cabs) and 14s (coupes) because of when they received their plates.

A 22% SC speed increase may be overkill. Let a professional tuner experienced with F-Types guide you.

The contour lines are isentropic efficiency and the dotted green lines are SC rpm.

Yep; seems that in North America, we go by Model Year whereas across the pond they use the year of purchase/licencing?

First I heard of it was a debate on here about what was or wasn't available in 2014....turns out the UK guys were calling a 2013 what we would call a 2014 MY car.

Think it's the other way around. In the US, the first model year for the F-type was 2014, with deliveries starting in the spring of 2013. In the UK, they called it a 2013.
