Welcome to the forum Eddie602,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
The Jaguar J Gate allows the driver to hold gears - if you select 2, 3 or 4 the transmission operates automatically but will not engage higher gears than the one selected.
Follow this link XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link US Southwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

New XJ8 owner problem !!!
I have a message on the dash that says restricted performance! This happens from time to time especially when I drive long distances (1 hour or more of highway driving) it goes away by itself, if I am at a red light the engine is not smooth at all, but I put in neutral and it's helps it a little . Also I can't go past 70mph without it jumping !! Plz help!

Eddie,
You should post technical questions about your model in the X308 (XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum) forum but I'll get you started on this one.
Restricted performance can sometimes simply be caused by poor fuel quality but there's many other possible causes. To start troubleshooting, you should have the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) read. I understand places like Pep Boys in the US will do this free of charge.
Post the codes (the actual codes - not any descriptions they may tell you of what they mean) in X308 forum for help with interpreting them.
