What did you do to or buy for your XJ-S/XJS today?

Paul you could do it by yourself, you don't need to start the car. As soon as you turn the engine over the trans pump will run. Disconnect the oil cooler return line from the trans and put it in a bucket, turn the engine over.
When you just drop the pan there is still a few Liters of fluid in the converter that does not get changed.

Without wanting to turn this into a thread about my fluid change, is it ok, IYO, to turn the engine and let the pump dump say 3-4 litres at a time without having someone constantly fill it via the dipstick? Do I risk damaging the box? I assumed that I would need 3 people to keep the fluid level broadly constant whilst it was being pumped out. How quickly will the pump dump the old fluid out if I'm turning the starter but can't see the rate of output?
Tks again
Paul

I bought my XJS a Buick Roadmaster Wagon that will be donating its powertrain. I'm fed up of all the Gremlins involved in keeping the V12 healthy (relative) My engineering brain finally said enough and made a rational decision. I'll admit I love the look of the car but have never been a huge fan of the engine. This is the 5th I have owned/maintained so I've put in my time. That being said, I'll be selling the engine and trans out of my 88, starts, runs and shifts well. No smoke and good oil pressure. 2 owner car has 67k miles. Has a few oil leaks, coolant hoses need replacement and its still got original fuel injection harness/hoses. Vac advance on the dist went out and was the straw that broke this camel's back. PM me if interested in engine or trans.

Installed bronze throttle linkage bushings. Used a neoprene 1/4" washer to hold the thing in place. I get the feeling I upset something in there, though, cos now she's idling high and starting hard. Hey, at least the idle is smooth, and I don't stumble while cruising anymore.
One fix at a time, I tell myself, one fix at a time...

By chance did fitting new bushings alter the idle switch setting on L/H throttle linkage, that can alter idle.

New to site. DIY project on 89 "Jacobra"
Hello I'm new to the site and couldn't help my self when I read the catergory. I started a project on my 89 XJS, as I could not find a rear spoiler that suited me. So I began building it myself don't laugh to hard as it's in the early stages but you can see the vision. I'm starting the lower edgs at the upper body line on the rear 1/4's and flowing it up and across the trunk/boot. The trunk will open normally with the tiniest of gaps between the pieces, I want it to look almost as 1 piece. When done it will be covered in fiberglass and finished out with the rest of the body work.

Hey, I did the same - yesterday Just without deleting the air pump as I don't have one
I searched today for an alternative stud for C9655, which isn't available anymore... I found out that the studs from the exhaust manifolds fit and can be used... So that was a nice find.
In case you ask where it sits: on the casting for the fan, meant to be a tensioner anker point for the fan belt...

Change oil and filter first then disconnect transmission line.
Return line from cooler is the bottom one. You will know when you have cleaned out all the old fluid as the fluid coming out will be clean.

12 inch =1foot
3 foot or 4!? = 1 yard
And then come all the chains, furlongs, ...
I prefer counting to 10 each time
