dragonfire6,
My start button is also looking somewhat worn on my XKR coupe, so I'm thinking about glueing a Jaguar medallion to the top of it as I did to the rotary shifter (which I took off a Jaguar keychain). They come in smaller sizes which would fit nicely.

Read quite a few times on here about problems with the start button. Had mine since new in 2014, daily driven and the start button is as new. Does anyone have any theories on what might be causing the degradation for certaIn cars?

I'm sure I've read somewhere (searched this forum but no go) that it can be caused by the skin chemistry of the driver, in that some people just have more acidic secretions than normal.

That's a great idea and look great on your selector. I would do it if the dealer was not replacing under warranty. I'm gonna ask about any other colors and might complain about the paddle shifters also, which aren't anywhere near as bad. I mean, look at this thing?!?! 2015 with 13k miles

I believe orange and black are the 2 options. Since the black one is a matte plastic with no coating, it will wear well regardless of body chemistry.

For those that have the start button issue, do you ever press the vehicle with different fingers, nails, etc? It's really hard for me to fathom a finger doing that but over time I guess it can happen.

I feel sorry for that guy's wife or GF!!

A few people have made custom start buttons for later model Mercedes. I looked around but couldn't find an optional aftermarket replacement.

I suspect the material in the orange button is not durable. I had the same problem in my '14. The black button on my '16 feels better (could be in my head) and hasn't shown any signs of wear.

McCarbon makes various start buttons for luxury and sports cars. Don't see one listed yet for an F-type.

I can almost see fingerprints on dragonfire6's button. The previous owner must have been Corrosive Man.

A replacement OEM factory start button on my friend's AMG C63 was $27 so even if one gets worn out of warranty it really could not be an over $75 item even with the LED.

There must be a way of putting a clearcoat of sorts on them to prevent or slow wear.

Dropped her off at Orlando Jag and she's getting the following done:
  • 12k Service
  • Recall O2 Sensor
  • Replacing Start/Stop Button
  • Replacing Sticky Steering Wheel Plastic Surround
Started her up this morning and the check engine light came on - the dealer thinks it is related to the 02 sensor but hasn't called me to confirm yet.

Quick question - The dealer said the 12K service was free but I thought only the 2016's had the free scheduled maintenance. Does my 2015 have the free maintenance also or is the first service free on all Jags?

All years get at least the first service free - that's all I got.

Hey guys,
I just wanted to post an update: I sold my R8 a little over a week ago and I'm still in mourning but the F-Type is helping me to get over it. I was able to sell my R8 for $65k to a guy in Georgia. I put new tires on the Jag and it made a huge difference in the handling of the car - I'm currently looking for new rims if you didn't see my other post.

I reallllllly like the Jag but I loved the R8... She's a hard act to follow. I think if I was coming from my previous BMW 335i I'd already be in love with the Jag but I'm still missing the R8 a lot. I'm sure it will pass with time. Thanks to everyone for all of the comments, answers and advice in helping me make my F-Type purchase.
-Chris
