i can't sleep...2005 XKR
i think i am looking at an xkr tomorrow...finally!
questions:
the treadplate has the R, instead of XKR on it...did it change according to year?
did they make an XKR-S in 2005? the guy says this one is an S...
any 2005 owners, please chime in with your experiences.
thank you!

I believe there is an R edition that is not an XKR, look for the blower on the engine and the words "Suppercharged" on the tach.

Write down the VIN and enter it here FordEtis home page it will tell you exactly what it is and its build specs.
Good luck!

In 2005 Jaguar released the final versions of the XK8/XKR called 4.2-S.
I had a normally aspirated 2005 XK8 4.2-S and another member (Frog) had the supercharged XKR 4.2-S. The letter 'S' indicates Final Series of this model.
The treadplate is just visible in this photo:
XK8 with chequered flags at both ends. The XKR had XKR with the same flags.
The luggage compartment lid had a 4.2-S badge on both XK8 and XKR.
The XKR 4.2-S should have this badge on the front bumper:
Another variant of this specification was available in the US only and named the Victory Edition limited to 1050 cars.

i pulled the trigger, and bought the 2005 XKR today, they are doing some detail work for me, and i should have her by next week. excited! i found out it is a supercharged model, the hood badge is green growler with no checkered flags.
it was a lease car from newport beach jaguar, and it was really maintained well.
lots of service records...i hope she remains pretty trouble free.
i recall someone on here making their fixed key into a flip...is there a way to convert the old school fixed key into something more modern? like a one piece fob?
does anyone want to convert my key into a flip key? pm me your cost if so.
the center armrest is very shallow inside, it used to hold cassette tapes. has anyone taken that holder out to modify it to be deeper?
any other mods you think i may enjoy? i don't use bluetooth etc...
thank you again.
here is a pic of her after i took her for a spin in this rare southern california rainstorm!

any tips? she was well maintained at jag dealerships throughout her life so far...do you like the brembo brakes? are they low dust?

Congrats--looks like a nice one! The coupe is especially rare here in California. I think there is some website or source where you can put in the VIN number and it will tell you all of the options that you have or don't have. Funny you should ask about the brake dust. The OEM pads do through off a lot of dust but most replacement pads are almost dust free (at least the ones I have).

they have 75% left, so i will wait and see...dreading the cost of brake pads on this car...not a fan of the rims, and yes boys, i do know they are BBS and worth a ton... i just dont like that they are so open, so will have the rusty bits painted black...
do you change oil with synthetic every 4,000 miles?
i sooo wanted either zircon or grey since i have a platinum xtype already!
your car is gorgeous! i feared the "green shower" so as much as i wanted a convertible, i chose the coupe.
with the original sticker of $93,000, it is a dream to own this car.
i am a lucky girl.

Change your brake pads to ceramic, your wheels will thank you as well as your detailing time.
The center console has no room under it for expansion however the cassett holder is a snap in piece that can be removed, take the top off and the inside box will come out, you'll see how to remove the cassett holder.
Search for the antennae switch mod, while you have the console apart install the antennae switch, this keeps the "alien beacon antennae down when using the CD player, you can also wire in an aux input for MP3 players.
I wired my front fog lights to be on anytime the car is on without headlights on, great for viability. I also wired my rear fog lights to work as brake lights, again great visibility. Let me know if you want instructions, both are very easy to do.
Nice looking Jag, to bad it's a coupe...

Actually the brake pad replacement was not all that costly--I used an independent guy to do first the rears (I think the guy used EBC or Akibono) and the fronts were Textar. Each pair were about $250 installed which is worth it for me. Make sure that you receive the little tire valve adapter to put air in the tires. You will learn to hate this feature pretty quickly and wonder why a $93,000 vehicle didn't come with tire pressure sensors.

i so feared the green shower, and funny, 2 days ago, i test drove a gorgeous black xk8. the convertible top would not close and it was raining!!! so i thought, this is a sign... haha.
im thrilled with my hardtop. yours is gorgeous though!!! love the color
i recall 2 small screws in the console? is it just black plastic under there? (the car is with the shop now getting detailed, so i dont have it on hand to check)
i run my fogs on my xtype, but have been pulled over by cops, so i want the option on this car to turn on manually...
i plan to use this as the weekender...will driving it twice a week be ok for the battery? i hear it drains quickly...

You will need the adapter since if you look closely you will not find a valve on the wheel. You will see a screw on the wheel that must be removed, then you screw in the adapter, then you check/fill the air. The process is NOT one you want to do at a gas station since the timer on all of the self-serve air fillers will run out by the time you get to the second wheel. But you will likely drop and have to search for the screw and/or adapter that will usually roll under the car.
So I bit the bullet and bought a small Black & Decker plugin tire filler and just check and fill the tires in my own garage. All this is moot unless you have the adapter. It should be in the console or maybe in the trunk but you can generally find these on ebay:

On the console you will remove the rear screws holding the lid on and the front screws holding the latch on, easy to figure out when you are looking at it. Yes it's plastic

well, i picked her up today, and the engine is sooooo amazing! i found out the muffler was modified, so it is pretty loud and throaty. it was very difficult to stay within speed limits, and can't wait till i go on a road trip with no traffic...
i had a chance to really look at the car interior in the sun today, and found
THE TIRE VALVE KIT! yay! (and the previous owner left 1 cialis pill in the sunglass box, lol)
i have to get a plastic switch cover replaced for the seat adjuster (will try gorilla glue first)
questions: why do my brembos squeak? my mechanic says there is 60% left on front and back...it seems they squeak at slow, rolling stops... and i drove it home in the evening, so it was pretty cold...

Prettybluefin,
What a gorgeous coupe. Hope you enjoy it for a long time. Although I mostly drive my 2010 XKR silver coupe now, I still enjoy my 2002 XKR convertible and actually find the X100 body, both coupe and convertible, to be more classic and certainly more sensual as well. The heritage ties to the XKE are so obvious.
I use a mechanic in Northridge to work on all of my cars (about a dozen) including all three of my Jags, so if you need some help, just p.m. me. Hope to see you at the Queen's English Car Show this spring (Woodley Park in Van Nuys). Lots of forum members show up like Doug (Seismic guy), Ralph (ralphwg), and me.

I had the same problem. Dust from the pads had accumulated and was causing the pads to stick slightly. I pulled them, cleaned the dust, cleaned the pins and added anti-squeal on the back of the pads where the pistons hit and all is quiet now.
