Default New Here - XFR-S - Exhaust Mod's?

Hi,

This has probably been visited a ton of times however.... I've just recently picked up my 2014 XFR-S and have been looking at aftermarket back boxes to enhance the sound.

I have see Mina Gallery mentioned alot and they seem very helpful, has anyone got actual experience of these pipes in terms of fitting/sound etc?

Are there any other suggestions in terms of brands to look at? Sound clips?

I'm based in the UK - cheers

Howdy.

I've had a few options on my XFR, including, Spires Stage 1 (removes centre silencer and replaces with an X-pipe, I think this is the stock XFR-S set up):

Spires Stage 1 + Mina back boxes:

and Just Mina:

I also tried Spires Stage 2 (back boxes) only, but don't have a video. They are similar to the Mina, slightly less deep sound and slightly louder.

I settled on the Mina only in the end, I didn't want something at all loud and the Mina's gave the lowest increase in volume (while still being quite a significant increase) and a wonderful deep sound. The Spires were equally good, but the Mina was less loud, so I went with them.

Mina has the lowest drone of any setup I've had, with a minimal (but not zero) "bloom" at 2k under load. Almost silent on a constant cruise. Sat on a driveway, revving the engine doesn't do the sound justice, such a nice burble.

If yours sounds like the xkr-s, it sounds so much more European. Raspy Don't swap the mufflers!

Do a silencer delete with the x pipe and stop there.

If it sounds like an XFR, upgrade those mufflers.

Doesn't the XFR-S already have the X pipe?

I don't have any videos under load, but I'll see what I can do. No promises in the middle of winter, however...

I think the XFR-S has the x-pipe already, but don't quote me.

I suggest you also talk to Matt at Spires; he has been very helpful to me.

(Edit) Ok, I did actually get a couple short clips. First one is a slow pull away, the second was supposed to be a little faster but the roads are like grease at the moment and the traction wasn't having any of it.... Sounds much better than sat on a driveway, however!

Yes, the XFR-S already has an X-pipe.
So one less thing to change.

Wow!! With you being in the UK, I am surprised you haven't looked at the Spires kit.

I have Mina on my XFR.

I love the guys at Mina and love the look and sound of the new pipes. Wish they were a tad louder though.

If you tell Mina you're a member here they may extend a discount. They are very knowledgeable and great working with.

I have only heard the Spires over videos, but they sound pretty damm good..LOTS of crackle coming out of those, but the price point is just to much for me to justify at this point. I have the Varex Active Exhaust (not installed yet) and I believe the sound is not as distinct as the Spires, but its pretty nice. Check out stmcknig's posts. He had a good video of the Varex Exhaust from his XFR. The fact that it is controlled makes my life with the leggy blonde much easier..she always goes ballistic when she hears subaru BRZ's drive past us with their buzzzcans full blast at 20 MPH...lol !!!

The Mina is at least as expensive as the Spires Stage 2 in the UK once the extra taxation on the Mina import (and carriage) is factored in. I assume it would be a similar story in reverse for the Americans here importing the Spires.

Personally I find the crackle a bit OTT and I always turn it off (deactivating dynamic mode almost entirely removes the crackle) when I'm in town or it has me reaching for the brown paper bag, haha.

I haven't heard the varex version, can someone post a link to it? I think I'm leaning towards the Mina... I've come from a 911 with an Akrapovic system installed so loudness and pops and crackles are my thing...

Much lighter than factory
