So just to be clear, from what I remember is that the return line is where the FPR is connected. The line that feeds the fuel rail is the one with the check valve. Correct? The flow of fuel according to this pic of your engine is from left to right? Please advise me if Im wrong or just point out the direction that the fuel should flow through the check valve. Thanks again
I replaced the plugs, cap and rotor, but still experience starting issues. I have a really good check valve ready to go so I figured tomorrow would be a good day to install it

Mission complete! I installed a racing check valve and it has been heaven. Starts right up every time without long cranks or several attempts. The check valve has -8AN ends and the brass fittings are designed to mate perfectly so there was no need for any kind of sealant in the threads. Since these are for racing applications I expect it to last a very long time! Thank you for your input!!! Now I can move on to other things.
Happy to report that my XJ40 has been performing flawlessly! Starts right up every time. Left it alone for a couple of days and my wife decided to use it without my permission, and I was just glad it started up and drove like she had expected it to, heavy. 😂
