.... But what I really want know is out of the 669 XKR coupes made in calendar year 2005 , which were MY2005 or MY2006?
What was the cut off date or VIN# perhaps... or are all 2005 calendar year production cars 2006? ....
Andy,
Jaguar Model Year was historically introduced in September after the factory summer closure gave the opportunity to introduce changes without disrupting production and it's still generally the last quarter of the calendar year.
2005MY is the final build specification of the XK8/XKR.
A few months ago, I wrote to JLRNA and asked for a breakdown of coupes vs convertibles sold in the US for the US 2006 model year. I got a brush-off reply that that information was "not available." How annoying. More like the company doesn't want us to know. I asked because the published breakdown of coupes vs convertibles worldwide suggests about 3 convertibles to every coupe, whereas my observation of the market in the US is about 10 to 1.
So from some other looking around the net, I found out of the total 669 XKRs coupes built the 4.2s/ victory model starting at VIN A45289 & had production of 340 XKR coupes
So that leaves 329 XKR Coupes built in '05.. some for each MY.
[my VIN is A45822 made 25 Feb 2005]
The starting VIN for all MY2005 is A442348 and MY 2006 is A44686. production of MY 2005 is 2338 leaving a total of 3998 for MY2006
So we're getting closer to a final # of models
I emailed jaguar heritage to see if they can clarify it some more ... when I get it I'll share it here
I wrote and asked for some info on my car, about #'s and Recaro seats and MY etc etc
They Wrote...
Dear Andy
Thank you for your email. Our researcher suggests that 666 of the 669 XKR Coupes were 2006 model year. He does not believe your vehicle is a Victory edition. Unfortunately we do not have any information regarding the seats. He also noted that your VIN is listed as one of five Black Cat editions modified by Faeber for Jaguar Cars North America. I hope this is of assistance to you.

The 'Black Cat' edition was a US only car. Jaguar North America disposed of ex-company cars at auction and they would create these special editions. We believe there were five Black Cat cars produced and modified by Faerber Productions International, California.
The modifications were:
A custom paintwork with ghosted Leaper on both sides
Stainless steel Borla exhaust system
Black finished front mesh grille, brake calipers and dual exhaust tips
Piano black veneer
"R" logo embroidered onto Recaro seats
We are not sure that all the cars had all the modifications but assume they did. We hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Mary

mine does not have all the mods ...does have S/Steel pipes and no leaper ghosted in.. yuk, but goes like a panther on the prowl... much quicker then my 2004's
I think the leaper ghosted in looked killer! Very subtle. Being special edition cars, this is not something you go to the supermarket in. It's something you garage and take out on weekends to car shows. In that scene, it needs a little something extra to stand out.
mine is 02/05 but in my earlier post.... The starting VIN for all MY2005 is A42348 and MY 2006 is A44686. production of MY 2005 is 2338 leaving a total of 3998 for MY2006
check your VIN
accourding to Jag only 3 XKR coupes in 2005MY
see grahams earlier post on when they changed up the manufacturing times
You have done way to much researching. Now, tell me why does the Jag have those Wheels on it? Is that the way you bought it or did you put those things on it? I agree with hm1, either put Detroit's or Montreal's on it and then it will look like a real XKR....I would prefer the Montreal's personally...as that's what I have on my 2005 Ebony/Ivory XKR. It has the Handling Package and the Red Brembos brakes like yours. Sorry, I just think the Designer that came up with the BBS Wheels for the XKR, should be given a raise because He got it right with the Detroit and the Montreal's.....
Enjoy your XKR, as you can't find many like ours....I plan to keep driving mine until I check-out!

You asked me what my SS# was and it is much lower than yours as I told you it was
built 2/2004. The number I think you want is A40678.
Yeah.. I'm bit of a Ferret, as I want to know the background of this Cat.
& Yes! the Detroit's are great looking, I have them on my 2004.
The car came with Vertini Fair Lady wheels, when I got it...so not sure if 1st owner did it .... there just OK but not the cool BBS
so I did find out one more thing about these Black cats.
Not all cars got all mods....
The guy that did them and the Sterling Moss[5 cars] unfortunately has passed away in 2011, so not able to get records, gonna try 1st owner
Got this Email from Jaguar North America Archives, in NJ.

Hello Andy-
The Black Cat edition was one of two concepts created to help sell "demo" XKs. The other one was a Stirling Moss edition in silver.
You are correct that there were only five Black Cats.
They were done by Faerber Productions in California with the modifications you have listed.
I have a list of the five numbers of which yours is the first.
The list does not show whether all the mods were made to all the cars.
I'm sorry that this is all the information we have. I don't know if Faerber is till in business ...
You SAID IT .... "Enjoy your XKR, as you can't find many like ours..."
Ain't that The truth!...these are lovely cars
And it is not for sale... Ive only had it less than a month.
and its been snowing for the last 3 weeks ...so can't even drive it yet
I'll will be looking around for the Detroits that were on it from Factory...as I did find the original window sticker with the owners manuals
