New Wheels - Help Needed Please
Hello Community,
Could someone kindly help me if it would be possible to place Calibre Vintage wheels on a xjr from 2001 ?

If so, could anybody recommend the correct size / offset ?
These are the options I was considering :
1) 18'' x 9'' all around
2) 19'' x 8.5'' front and 19'' x 9.5'' rear

If you browse pictures, you will see that many people use non-Jaguar rims, and most of those rims are BMW spec-ed with 5x120.
As long as your wheel fitter understands the technical principles, he should be able to fit them in the right way with the right stuff.
On the sizing, I agree with above, and dare to say that 18" rims are only slightly reducing the ride quality (depends a bit on the tire size), fit larger and you will start to feel it.
Still, Jaguar delivered this model with 19", so it is not impossible, not even by their standards.
I however do not really see the need to have 9J rims on the front, as the tire width you can use there is limited.
That makes the 9J a too wide rim.
I myself use a staggered 18x*8J on the front, and a 18x9J on the rear.
One more word of warning, if you go with rims wider than ~8J, you will need to reduce the ET (offset), otherwise you will have rubbing issues on the fenders.
All in all it requires some calculation work depending what you want.
I just helped an other forum member with it, and the biggest problem was actually the availability of rims, most were no longer available in the sizes she desired.

Thanxs for this valuable information. It seems that the consensus is to stay on 18. Now considering the car is also lowered with springs (Arden). Would it then be a must to be on 18' ? Or the 19 could eventually fit as described above ?
Yes, I have found a calculator on this site which allows me to understand offset, you are absolutely right about going smaller. From my calculations I can go to about 20-25 for a safe flush look (without molding the car).

Sure you can use 19", even 20", it all depends on how wide you want to go, and how much outside tire diameter you want to maintain.
In my humble opinion (and not subject to change ), the design of the car require a couple of things to keep the OEM look:
1. Keep the wheels an inch inside the wheel arches, no fender lip rolling,
2. Have rims no larger than 18, maximum 19",
3. Keep the tire diameter at some 677mm (26.7") to keep the arches full,
4. Use a rim width not wider than the tires size,
5. Use concave rims, they match beautiful with the x308 lines.
Stray from these, and the car might still look mighty impressive (like Greverrr proved), but it certainly shows it is aftermarket tuned.
For your reference, my specs are:
Front: 245/45R18 on 8J with ET33
Rear: 275/40R18 on 9J with ET35
Grever's specs are:
Front: 255/40R19 on 9.5J with ET22
Rear: 285/35R19 on 10.5J with ET22

Here is my dilemma, I am trying to acquire a retro / vintage look on my xjr and I have found two wheels which I like.

2a) Using the calibre vintage with 19x8.5 ET 20 in the front (that would extend the outer position by 19.35 mm and the inner clearance would be 6.65mm more) and 19x9.5 ET 40 + 5mm spacers on the rear (that would extend the outer position by 12.05mm + 5mm and the inner clearance would be 26.05mm less)
2b) Using the calibre vintage with 19x8.5 ET 20 in the front and 19x9.5 ET 20 (that would extend the outer position by 32.05mm and the inner clearance would be 6.05mm less)

Some images of Grever's Car (I guess he will chime in at some point).
I think all he did was rolling the fender lips to prevent contact.
I also remember he has sometimes a very slight contact between the tire and the inner front liner, but only sometimes going up a slope at a corner.

I have no issues at all.
The only small modification for 275 rear tires (I presume Grever had the same) is to 'halve', refurblish or remove the rear bump stop.

What's the tire size, 255/40R18?
And what are the tire sizes you intending to use on the new rims?

i just got an email from Calibre stating the following:
I am very sorry but unfortunately we do not offer any wheels for the Jaguar XJR.
It doesn’t all quite match up, even if we offer blank wheels there is not enough space for the right Centre bore and pcd meaning nothing aligns correctly.
I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Therefore it seems like a no go....
So it seems that I should concentrate on option 1a or 1b
My current setup is on asteroids 245/40/18 (winter tyres). The car has been lowered with Arden Springs (about -25mm from stock)

Well, makes life easier for me
Before I dig deeper, I see they are listing other offsets, like ET30 and ET35 as well.
Do you want to bring the wheels out intentionally?
Cause doing so will change the scrub factor, which is influencing potential tram-lining?
Or are those listed but not available?
EDIT: forget what I I wrote, I see they are for other bolt sizing ...
I will do some calculations.

Ok, my 2 cents:
- I think with 8.5J, you are kind of stuck with 255/40R18 tires (also the original tires on the OEM 18 inch rims).
These are slightly less in outside diameter than mine.
- If I use my present rim/tire combination as a reference, and if you don't want to have an interference with the fender lips, you will need an ET25.
- In that case, the rear tire is 4mm wider than my car, which will really JUST clear the lip, really depending on the tire brand (something to check while fitting).
- The front will be 13mm wider, but here I have a little bit more room, so that should also be JUST for your case.
- The fact that the tire is slightly smaller works in your advantage.
- If you use 245/45R18 tires, that might be in your advantage too, as the tires will slightly protrude towards the thread.
- The scrub will only be zero if the ET goes up to ~30, the effect on tram lining I can't determine.
- If you go to an ET20, you will have interference with the fenders, and you will need to roll the lips. If rolling the lips is sufficient I can't judge.

Wouldn't the larger overall diameter tires throw off the speedometer slightly?
Also, have you looked at the Coventry wheels? They make wheels specifically sized for Jaguars.

I have a new alloy cast wheel compatible with 2000-03 XJR and VDP. It is %1063 Solar 7.5x17 CH33 with Pirelli P6000 235/50-ZR-17 mounted. Don't believe wheel has ever been on the ground.
