Default Powdercoating 20" Gyrodynes - Colored Lip or no?

The safe answer is no of course, but what do people think about a colored (red) lip on a Salsa FT.

Too corny/tacky or a good look? If I end up in doubt about it, will just go with the original plan of all gloss black.

This type is colored lip is what I am referring to:

It will be very noticeable if lip doesn't match your car color.

Could wind up looking a little Tron-like.

I would have it match the Salsa as close as possible.

Feel free to be honest - TRON!!! LOL. I had the Tron arcade game in my living room for many years, surprised that one got past me.

Burt, is your car a vert as I recall? Also, what color are your calipers?

If you have any chrome left on the rest of the car, leave the lip silver of diamond-cut.

I like this.

The color *could* look really good though.

I'm going to plastidip my wheels as a temp way to see what looks good before I powdercoat them. Not a long term solution, but will let you see what the look like on the car..

Might be worth just spraying the ring and seeing for yourself.

You could just get some red tape to stick on, so you can look at it from a distance to get a feel for it. Might be good, but hard to visualize.

Car is Salsa, calipers are red.

Yeah, I am driving the wheels over today for Powdercoating and I guess I'll chicken out.

Just seen too many $200 wheels on Ebay with the same colored rim. May cheapen the look of the car.

The red stick on tape is a good idea. Just to see.

I had an FJ Cruiser that was blue and the rims had bead locks that were blue, but not matching 100% color wise and it was pretty bad looking; not bad as in MJ, just bad.

I think it would be too much with red calipers.

This is often an option used on Aventadors, but it does need calipers and edge colour to be matched on dark colours, and on bright colours for all 3 to be matched IMO

Be brave, go for it, dare to be different

I'll order some red non-reflective tape and play with it.

Yeah but for $8 I'll look it over - if it becomes a carnival I'm only out $8.

Tacky/ricer. Might be ok on a civic type r with a fartcan exhaust and a wing fit for an A340, but not on a car like this.
If you like it though then pay me no mind.

If you want red trim, go with black calipers.

Why the hate on the Civic Type R? For 1/3 or 1/4 price of an F-TYPE, the CTR will run circles around the F-TYPE all day on a track.

FWIW: Tapeworks has lots of colors and widths - and they have a pretty cool applicator tool that makes it easy to get it straight

I emailed them to send me examples of the non-reflective red tapes for a color match.

Burt, these may give you what your looking for. Would need a color match. Not sure how they sit on the wheel.
