How does this wood trim compare?
I am sorry for bogging down the X308 forum recently with questions related to the parts I am now selling. I must say though, I appreciate the help.
I have got my eye on an XJ6 on the other side of the State...with some luck and a few sales here maybe.
Anyway, I have seen the TSB for the wood trim, but wasn't sure if the bleached look that some of my panels have is what that refers to. There are only like two surface cracks in the whole set.
Could yall tell me how my wood compares? You can view the classified at:

I wondered this before it became a parts car. Now, unfortunately, I am wondering as a matter of price.
Thanks in advance!

The pic I posted above just now is what I considered to be my worst panel (right front). I didn't like it just because the light swirls didn't match the other doors.
This was the first car I had with wood veneer though. My Benz was solid mahogany and my Crown Vic is printed plastic. In both cases, all panels looked more similar.
Anyhow, thanks for the input.

The bleached wood generally tends to affect the grey-stained birds eye maple that was fitted to XJR and certain models of sport. My car came with grey stain from the factory, but the sun did her work and it all mismatched. I've since removed it and fitted the burr walnut set from my original XJ Sovereign, which is far superior in quality IMO. I've found a photo from when I first bought the car, it's not the best I'm afraid. However if you look where the centre vent veneer meets the passenger air bag panel, you can see traces of the grey and how the rest of it is bleached.
Faded and sun bleached veneers.
What the grey should look like, but even this area has faded slightly.

Nobody seemed interested on the classifieds here, so my wife threw it up on eBay with a few other things. She is limited to like 5 sales at a time to start with.
I did not see any complete sets currently available other than refinished set for $300, so I started the bidding at $99 and already got one on the line. The traffic statistics show this auction to be way more popular than the other stuff (taillights, grill, ABS unit). Everything other than the wood set was easy to price, made sure mine was the cheapest to be the first seller paid.
I will let you know how it ends. If anyone is curious:

There is a TSB for the wood grain on what I believe is all Jaguar models. In the TSB, Jaguar instructs dealer techs to send the panels to a third party for refinishing. The prices are listed in the TSB for this, but I do not know if this option is open to private individuals or if those prices are still valid. Here is the TSB link:

I have seen on eBay already refinished sets (~$300 set for XJ8). A fellow member here told me she paid a couple hundred dollars to have hers done. I will PM her to see if she wants to jump in here with more details for you.
As far as doing it yourself, I can tell you this:
-It is not like regular wood.
-It is not like furniture veneer.
-The veneer is laid over a thin aluminum panel.
-The veneer is thin and the clear coat is a large part of its thickness.
Pop piece off and check it. They pull off easy.

Thank you so much Aaron! Great info. I kinda figured they were unique in their construction, I have replaced the speakers on my car, so I'm familiar with the aluminum/ wood combo, just didn't realize that the lacquer was that large a part of it.
I would definitely be interested in your friends info about refurbishing mine.

I tried to copy the URL again, but it looks the same. If it does not work look for the thread titled "Would anyone like to pick through my leftover parts pile?" in the X308 forum.
