Rear centre brake light loose (coupe)

Hi Simon, I've been working on this but not fully resolved. The attached image might give a little help. Check that the plastic brackets on the glass are undamaged and then check the corresponding brackets on the light. One of the latter was broken on mine but the broken piece was still there and I repaired with JB Weld. If all brackets are OK then it's a matter of aligning them and sliding the light down the glass. All very fragile! I haven't yet been able to replace the cover and might have to resort to double sided tape for that. It seems to often be the clips on the glass which are broken and their have been references to that on the forum.

This is the first time in a long while!

bazjag,
Thanks so much for these directions on how to fit the Coupe's Rear Window Stop Light apparatus...All these years and this is the first time I've seen anything explaining how to do it. I gave up trying to figure it out some time ago and went to the two-sided tape way back when. I even ordered a new assembly a coupe years ago and still couldn't figure it out....as you say, there must be something broken off the Glass....
Thanks again!

The clips drove me insane when my brake light strip needed to be replaced. They had to remove it, one broke from age, and it damaged the window tint.
So when I had the tint re-done, I did NOT want it attached to the glass at all. I got a black piece of felt, and folded it thickly into a wedge to push under the housing.
It wedges firmly in place, does not rattle, and cost $1.00
Figured it was better that way for me in case I had issues with the tint or light strip.

I guess I shouldn't have got it loose by making air over that small bump at 180km/h.

If a bump knocked it loose, you can imagine getting the strip off and out to replace the burned out bulb! the plastic is so brittle, it just will break again...
(when the 3rd brake lights do burn out, do yourself a favor and go LED, super cheap fix)
Felt also makes for a cheap fix for any dash rattles...

I'm definitely not Prettybluefin, but I can answer your question:

I had the same problem. The brake light assembly is as brittle as a potato chip. 16 years of being baked by the sun in a glass greenhouse have ruined the thin plastic. After trying to get it to stay on the clips have broken off it and one clip has fallen off the glass.
Last year I replaced the failed light element with a LED strip and covered the broken housing with Gaff tape and glue to hold it together.
I took Prettybluefin's suggestion and folded a piece of felt to wedge it in place. This year I improved the mounting by cutting a wedge of black closed cell poly foam and wedging it under the light. The wedge does not show and the assembly looks fine.

My YellowJackets!
I've been wondering where those two got off too! They were out here in the Back yard in Houston Sunday Afternoon!
