Mirror Base should be gloss black?
hi guys
in searching for pics of carbon trim on the f type I noticed a lot of US cars have the mirror base in gloss black just like the window trim/black pack trim
is this correct or just the lighting
my car has the mirror base in a dark grey, you can clearly see its lighter where it butts up against gloss black window trim
this dark grey trim has always been a nuisance to me, not only because it looks odds but it's proven almost impossible to correct swirls/marring in the unfinished plastic
will take a better pic tomorrow but here's one I found on my phone for now

Mine are def gloss black, exactly the same as the black pack window trims.
Maybe, just maybe, the "grey" ones really are/were gloss black but they have faded in the sun?
I had a similar issue with the B pillars on a car a few years ago, they were quite grey and faded, but after attacking them with low cut polish for about an hour each they came up nice and gloss black. IIRC I used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound.
Maybe worth a try with some polish on an inconspicuous spot to see if it makes a difference?

I'm talking about where it affixes to the body of the car - it's gloss black. The black pack window trims are more of a matt black which is why there is a contrast.

Looking just at the mirror bases, I would swear they are gloss jet black. However, comparing them to the gloss black bonnet vents, they truly are a quarter of a shade lighter (deep dark charcoal). Learned something new, but it ain't gonna bother me.
