Hi Graham,

I'm hoping this thread will be like the "What did you work on today?" thread...

I shot videos, but no photos...

FYI, I added a map of my route to my original post.

Cheers!

Default Beach Cat

Drove the 2001 XKR to Leucadia/Encinitas for lunch yesterday, then South on 101 to Del Mar. Stopped at Lou's Records (has wide selection of new/used vinyl, VHS, CDs, DVDs and cassettes) to fill up the CD deck. Not far, not fast, but fun.

Leaving Del Mar

Anyone have tip for attaching surf racks?

When I moved from OR to CA which about 1,000 miles non-stop in 13 hours, I did an average of 25 mpg thank's to the addt'l gear on MY 05 and around 90-98 mph cruising speed with occasional trying to reach to top speed. The Jag ate up those miles comfortably and very stable at that high speed.

Todays drive from San Diego to Sacramento started at 0130 with the top up and I was able to take the 405 freeway thru Los Angeles at 75mph on cruise control without any traffic!

Just past Ventura I jumped on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and took it to Rincon where I had to get back on 101.

From Ventura to Gaviota beach near Point Conception, it was a beautiful drive as the full moon was in the western sky and the night was clear as can be. A wash of moonlight on the Pacific was my guide and unfortunately, I have no photos to share. Daybreak when I was at Gaviota State Beach so put on a thick hoodie and some jeans and put the top down (Tucked)

The Central coast of California was a fun drive and I safely passed the intersection where James Dean crashed his Porsche spyder as I crossed from Paso Robles to Kettleman City int he central valley.

A quick blast up I5 and then a northward shortcut thru the heart of the valley via Los Banos.

Picked up Hwy 99 in Turlock and it was a easy final leg to Sacramento.

Travel time 11 hours.
636.6 miles
26.6 gallons of fuel used
23.7 mpg
Ave speed 63 mph

Nice drive. Gotta love the PCH between Santa Monica and Santa Barbara when you have time for the detour--allot of car commercials get filmed here and for good reason. Windy roads along the ocean's edge and great scenery. The cut over from Malibu to PCH to 101 is SoCal at its best.
