Default X308 Aircon Squeal

Video.MOV

Hello Gents,

Please see attached video.

Recently I had my Air Condenser and TX valve (one unit) replaced in my X308. Now this noise occurs when the A/C switch is turned on. This squeal occurs every say 40-80 seconds and last for a few seconds a piece. I particularly notice this squeal when accelerating; less so when cruising at a regular speed of say 100km/h.

Could it be a faulty new part (i.e air condenser/TX valve)? Or perhaps something went wrong during the installation process? Or could it be something completely different.

My regular mechanic and I are baffled.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Max

A trip to an Air con specialist is always first port of call with Air con issues, they may have heard this before. I wonder if it's a trapped seal somewhere in the system that vibrates when the pump activates, it sounds like pressure regulation in the system isnt correct.
I'd suggest turning it on and leaving it on full time, see if the noise subsides, if it doesn't then have an air con dude check it out.
XK8 diagram but the same system.

Thanks for that. My local aircon bloke (who is no Jag expert) has a few theories. I was hoping if someone had come across the same problem I might be able to save on diagnostics. Nearest Jag expert to me is about 500km away.

Change the old belt first as it can be a glazed surface and squeal under load .

Other sources can be the idler pulley and the tensioner pulley as well as the harmonic balancer as you can put some white paint dots on the row of pulleys to see if it is slipping .

Before you break into the Freon lines look into the A/C clutch bearing which can be a DIY and can probably be replaced on car without removing the compressor itself . Real cheap . The X308 A/C compressor unit as a whole is a Denso series 6 or 7 as the X300 is a 10PA

The bearing can be obtained locally even the auto part store :

The size may be different for the Denso 6 and 7 series

Jaguar issued a TSB over 15 years ago to address a 'whistling' noise???

I think I did this job way back then?? (don't remember)

Thanks Penelope - much appreciated. Im not a mechanic, although reading this it looks like we don't have to take the dash out to try this solution?

Cheers Bob. Thanks for the attachment - I'll show it to my local mechanic when he's back at work after the festival period.

Can you hear it from the engine bay when it is happening, or only from inside the car? The expansion valve is inside the car, so it could be related to that if it's only heard inside. If I remember right, the x308 AC system isn't very proprietary, so a Jag-specific shop shouldn't have too much more to say than a regular AC specialist, except maybe known common problems specific to the x308 system. That is assuming similar mechanic skillset, and that your AC guy has access to the x308 tech docs.

Here's an excerpt from the FSM on noise, seems like the first thing to do is double-check system pressures to make sure everything is in order.

Thanks Bob.

Im going to get my local aircon bloke to do the job. He's just wondering with the original single pipe what was causing the issue for Jaguar to recommend using two pipes to solve the issue? Did it have something to do with a baffle in the hose?

Cheers

Max
