Has anyone purchased recently? Looks like Jaguar has dropped the price. Wondering if it's changed or they have too many.

Have gone through the glue process twice trying to keep the third brake light in place. My original light broke and I picked up a used replacement on ebay .. now that one has cracked and the metal clips have separated from the glass again.

I bought a new third light from the dealer -- but I'm thinking of just ending this saga and buying a new glass as well. Unfortunately, the seal is almost $250 .. adds up. The car needs the headliner replaced -- my original plan was to remove the front glass (replace) to aid with the headliner ..... but, my front mirror is a tad loose .. my guess is it's going to crack when trying to get off. The mirror price has also dropped ... still not cheap.

For the headliner, I'd let the shop remove it and do their voodoo and reinstall. Even with a VDP mine was a pain getting back in without wrinkling it.

I'm switching to LED, so I'm going to try to post some pics of my repair when I remove it for that. I literally used spray paint from Home Depot/Lowes (Valspar satin 85042 and Rust-Oleum hammered dark bronze, pic in the link, which matched my interior rather well) and JB Weld for the....well...welding of the plastic. It sands like body filler. I also soldered in a disconnect because its a straight wire run.

 

The VDP has longer rear doors -- my XJR is standard length ... the headliner carrier board is typically damaged. Having done a few of these now -- like to remove the glass ... and tythe front windscreen is pitted anyway.

My front mirror has the cracking case around the pivot ball problem -- Have already lost some of plastic and the band has moved. I guess I could try for a used one -- but with the glass problems most have they cost 1/2 as much as a new one used anyway.

Having glued the third light a few times and getting a used one as well -- I bought a new one. The used ones are going for $80 .. I paid $120 for the new one.

 

Yeah, that's why I said what I said about letting the headliner guys do it. Heck, if you have the experience, and are game, then have a go with it.
A $120 for a new light isn't bad, I'd of done that.

My headliner guy gives a better price with the glass out ... obviously. And with the upright stance of the glass it does get pitted .. so, it's an obvious time to switch out the front glass.

My rearview mirror glass is working -- it's the case. Jag looks to have used the same cheap plastic on the mirror frame as they did on the third light ... since most mirrors are trashed because of the glass -------- was thinking maybe I could pick one up with bad glass and do a switch out .. have not found one.

The third light at one time was almost $250 -- maybe Jaguar is like MB .. when they have too many the price drops and when too few they up the price.

Same with the rear glass price drop .. I'm going to call my glass guy on Monday and see what chance of getting the glass out and reusing the seal.

 

Like I said, Coventry will work with you on that mirror, they'll even chase that case. Have you checked the Marketplace?

I gave a quick look: nothing close $150+.

Will give coventry a call ... see what they say. I was at a salvage yard two weeks ago getting some body parts for an older MB wagon (my sister hit a deer). They had nothing close on the search

 

I know what your saying, I searched years for a proper Penta wheel for my spare. All the others had curb rashes at minimum. Ironically just after I got the tire mounted on it, 2 days later, I got a flat....first time to.

 

You should have at least scrolled down on that mirror search....
