My 97 XK8 with 90,000 miles went in to the mechanics for the chain tensioner makeover job. Along the way, the bearings on the idler pulley were shot and a few other minor items were repaired. The shop called and said it will be ready later this afternoon and I'm looking forward to hearing how she purrs!!
Well she does purr ever so nicely. Thanks go out to Dean and his wife Kerrie at Gene McCaffertys in Loomis California for a job well done. Here's a photo of what Dean replaced and he also gave me a small baggie of non-Jaguar bolts that he found as he did the repair and of course he replaced them with the real deal. The idler pulley for the serpentine belt had shot bearings so that was replaced too. Notice the cracks in the tensioners... the first photo is of a crack up towards on end of the tensioners and the second photo is farther down on the tensioners.
No sign of the pinhole leak on the coolant expansion tank yet my coolant cap had a flat spot on it and wasn't holding pressure, so we replaced that as well.
(2400.00 cash and a bottle of nice red wine is what the job cost me if any one is interested)
