Default XJR C.A.T.S. Suspension vs Standard Bilstein Shocks

Just purchased a 2002 XJR. Love the performance, but I am having issues with the C.A.T.S. shocks. The front shocks are black in color (comfort shock) should be green. The rear shocks are green (sport shock) and the bushing are shot. I am not a fan of this rather antiquated system. I prefer to switch to the tried and true standard Bilstein shocks. Has anybody switched out the C.A.T.S. for regular bilstein shocks ? If so, what is involved and do you like the ride quality. My goal is the improve the ride quality, it rides much harsher than my previous XJ8. I use the XJR as my daily commuter car.

Switch the shocks and unplug the suspension module in the boot so you don't get a code.

The XJR has harder suspension bushings ( as there are many other then the shock ends that effect ride ) as well as anti - roll bar thicknesses . The shock main body other then the top inflating portion of the CATS shock may have a different internal valve body in it's hydraulic port size and this would effect ride . The lower shock bushing is recommended by someone to be replaced by OEM as the others wear out very fast .

I don't believe anything changed that would stop you from using the pre-CATS shocks as fitted to the earlier XJR's.

The layout never loved low profile tires that's why the Jaguar specific Pzero's had reinforced sidewalks to run with lower pressure. The CATS allowed for a bit more comfort ..

what tire pressure are you running ... and what tire?

Several XKR owners made the swap with no adverse effects, which is why I suggested it.

I took the green ones off and sent them to Bilstein for rebuild. Inexpensive and they match, if that is an issue
