So today I had the "limited performance" occurrence, basically the motor quit when revved over 3K, it did it several times. And I get the P0328 "knock sensor 1 circuit high bank 1 or single sensor" code.
It did this a couple weeks or so ago, I inspected and jiggled/cleaned the knock sensor wiring connections and hoped it would go away, but I ordered two new knock sensors in case, and sure enough, here it is again, so I guess I will replace at least one of the knock sensors. My question is, which one is "knock sensor 1, bank 1" ? Driver's side, or passenger side (USA)?
And, are there any other tests I should do? Or is it likely that replacing the knock sensor(s) will cure the problem?
Thank you HS, I will replace the "right side" (passenger US) knock sensor and hope that fixes the problem. I have to take the car in for the Transgo transmission mod on Tuesday, so will probably wait until later in the week for this knock-sensor fix.
It sort of seems ironic that the knock sensor, which is supposed to be a "warning device" becomes the primary problem. (unless there really is another underlying real problem other than the knock sensor?)
Will let everyone know the results (of both transgo and knock sensor) as and when.
Just in case we guess wrong, please add the year, model and engine details of your Jaguar to your signature line (User CP link above).
Assuming it's an X308, here is the cylinder numbering chart:
Regarding P0328, here is the listing from the DTC Summaries manual:
Note that Knock Sensor failure is the last possible cause, and the more likely causes are poor contact with the block or a problem with the wiring/electrical circuit. This could be something as simple as the electrical connector being loose or contaminated with oil or coolant. It would be worth ruling out all wiring issues before replacing the sensor.

Don, I checked the CP link, I think I have my details listed? If not, 2001 XJ8 4.0 VDP. (US)

Don, thanks for that, I will try cleaning block contact and checking terminal connections first. Hopefully I can find something obvious.
This morning I tackled the Bank 1 knock sensor replacement. Pretty simple once you've done one (and had all the proper guidance from this wonderful forum). The Jaguar engineers could have put it in a more inconvenient place, but I guess they didn't have time to find one and figured, oh what the hell, lets run it along this equally inconveniently-routed heater hose!
I was surprised how tight the nut holding the sensor was, but was pleasantly surprised that the sensor itself was loose once the nut was removed, and could easily be removed with a pair of those extraordinarily long needle-nose pliers that I only find a use for once in a blue moon. I sprayed the revealed stationary knock sensor with electrical cleaner, and re-routed the new sensor, a bit of a pain, but not too bad.
As per forum advice I purchased the $32.00 272940880300 knock sensor listed for the 00-06 Jag S-type 3.0L V-6 instead of the $130-$175 one listed for the XJ8, and so far it seems to work fine.
I took the car out for an early Sunday morning test ride, revved it up to 7 grand with no problems. Hopefully that was the cure. And I have another spare sensor for the left-hand Bank 2 should I need it.
Thanks once again to all on the forum, this place rocks!
