Default Stress fracture on roof struts

Hi there
I recently bought a 71 Series 1 XJ6 which has been well maintained mechanically however I am a bit concerned about slight stress fractures on both front and rear roof supports.

The LHF jacking point needs rust repair but the other 3 seem fine. There are small rust spots appearing in the lower front guards and bottom of the doors.

Just wondering if this is a common problem with SWB models and best way to solve the problem?

If you are talking about cracks like this, I have been told they are solder joins. Been repaired and back again. Something to live with I guess, could be worse. At least they are not rust holes. Learn to live with it or be prepared to spend a fortune. It's a 47 year old car.

My Series 2 has similar cracks that show in broken paint on all 4 corners of the roof, and she's only 42 years old.

After a while you won't even notice them.

From afar, I'd guess it is where the roof panel is welded tot he posts at Brownslane, oh so many years ago.

I agree, leave it be. Not likely to cause any issues. Should you fear water intrusion there, keep it we'll waxed.

Welcome. lots of good things here as well as some fun.

Thanks for your replies and photos - yes mine look the same in the same place. I feel slightly relieved that it is something to live with as just didn't want to think about the idea of my car turning itself into a convertible one day!
Have to sort out the rust spots then should be fine to register and enjoy
