Starting Problem
Just bought this really nice 1996 XJ6, seller advised me it wouldn't start because of the of a bad fuel flow regulator which I changed "Not It" checked fuel pump by listening ear against tank, no sound so I change (with much difficulty) the fuel pump, "Not It" Then A light went on "Emergency cut off switch" changed it, "Not It" So I'm sitting here with a car that wont start and I haven't a clue as to what the heck to do next, "HELP"!

Assuming it is a fuel issue , put your finger on the # 1 fuel pump rely and feel for 2 clicks on 5 seconds then off by the key in the on position before start . this primes the fuel rail . It will clink a 3rd time on as the ECU sees engine rotation by the Crankshaft sensor .
The inertia / crash switch is fical and you can jumper the 2 white wires with a paper clip . You can swap relays if no click and there is a relay control fuse in the rear seat fuse box . The main fuel pump power fuse is a green # 7 / 30 amp in the trunk .

To cut through the chase and see if your # 1 fuel pump runs and get some results you an jumper power straight into the fwd slot of the # 1 fuel pump relay . High current arcing hazard so use a common blade connector so you don't damage the socket and the last electrical connection is the battery or the fuse box B + post .
