R1 Space Saver and tool kit questions
I'm (slowly) putting together the pieces needed to upgrade to the R Performance Brembos. Part of this means swapping my regular space saver for the R Performance version, which is bright red/pink, rather than black.
I have one already, but the issue is that it doesn't fit over the original polystyrene jack/tool kit holder.
Is there a different version of this that I need, or do I just have to go without the jack etc?
If anyone has any pictures they could put up of their red space saver and how it fits in the boot, that would be a big help!

I used an 18" space saver for a while, and decided to turn it upside down, with the polystyrene jack/tool kit holder in it rather than under it.
It gives lots more space for some other stuff like a blanket, starter cables, oil can, etc.
Fabricated a supporting sub-frame under the spare, and had to trim some of the polystyrene holder (had a 2nd set), but then it looked like factory fitted.
Reversed everything when I finally found my spare Double-Five though.

Space saver? My '01 XJR came with a regular Asteroid 18" spare. Did not know that some X308s had space savers? And yes the Asteroid fits fine over the jack tools/holder with enough room for a set of jumper cables wound around the polystyrene holder under the wheel. The only issue is that to use them, I first have to remove the spare - no big deal on the rare occasion I need to use them.

Thank you!
Does the tyre actually sit on the boot floor, or does the centre of the wheel sit on the tool kit?
I'll try to check mine again over the weekend. It definitely sits too high at the moment, so it hits my amp rack.
Looks like I'll probably have to redesign some of that either way, as it looks like I'll need about 1cm more clearance at the very least.
I would really love to keep the tool kit in there as well though.

I didn't know about the space savers. Initially I was thinking it was an XJR thing, because of the 18" wheel, but checking a tire conversion chart a 255/40/18 has a 26" diameter just like a 225/60/16, just low profile tire.
Mine has the original full size VDP wheel, still unused from new, and there is still room to store ancillary stuff around it if need be. Does the space saver-save that much space?
(the "foil" is some soundproofing I installed)

I have a set of Milans and a set of Detroits
I also have an amp rack in the boot, which is why the space saver is pretty key.
The issue is that this was all built around the height of the standard space saver, not the BBS one
:edit: just for interests sake, this car came with a full size Asteroid spare, but I bought a regular space saver for it when the stereo work was done, and then bought the new BBS space saver as part of the pieces I need for the Brembo swap

I believe it was as much about getting the floor flat as it was about weight and cost -- the full tire is very heavy to remove in an emergency from that location. Since 1995 my four DD x300/X308 ......... have used it once.
I can tell when two set of golf clubs are in the trunk ... think the car is better w/o the weight of the full tire.
