Default 2016 MT issue

Last year when a bunch of us drove to the British Motorcar show in PA, my manual transmission coupe went into reverse even though it was in first gear. Backup camera did not come on. It happened at least 4 shifts before it finally went forward.

Today I put it in reverse, backup camera came on and it went forward when I gave it gas. Happened at least 5 tries taking it out of gear and then back in before it finally reversed when I gunned engine. Drove a couple of hundred feet to a light. Put it in first and it went into reverse. Had to put in third and gunned engine and it finally went forward. I smelled burning clutch after that.

I've been driving a manual since 1974 and never went through a clutch. Put over 100k on them. I don't track. Help!! Anyone got any ideas? This is first Gen clutch. I made appointment with dealer. Unhinged??

The clutch won't account for the "wrong gear" situation. The shifter mechanism seems to be failing. If you still have a Gen. 1 clutch I expect it's only a matter of time before it fails, so make sure to note that with the dealer. There a bulletin on it, but I don't have the number handy.

Hate to hear that and I have no idea what it could be but I will say it seems these manual F Types have nothing but issues. I almost got a 6 speed one but i'm glad I didn't. Hopefully you get it sorted out.

+1. I am not surprised that you smelled burnt clutch trying to launch in 3rd. That would be normal. I would not worry about the clutch at this point. Look at the pic below (I just happen to have a spare shifter rail left over from the short shifter project). If either of those two bolts are loose, I would expect you to experience the "wrong gear" issue. If so, it's a less than 20 minute fix on a lift. If not, it will be a 6 hour job to r&r the tranny to open the access plate and inspect the internal shift rods/forks.
