Default New X type owner

Hi All
Hi All not sure if I've done the sensible thing but I needed a cheap-ish estate to get to work and back and came across a 05 1 previous owner X-type 2.0 diesel estate 117K miles with no rust ...so far....for not too much money.

Any way I'm an experienced electrical/mechanical engineer and and now working as an electrical engineer at a large factory in Essex UK.....but living in Suffolk UK.

The X type has a few problems ... the ubiquitous turbo problems (sticking VNT system ) and a noisy crank pulley , needs a brake re-build (front and back) and I suspect changing a few bushes and a bloody good service probable wouldn't go amiss--- all things I should be able address my-self ... the only fly in the ointment is that I's awaiting a hernia operation ...not really too painful now but not looking forward to the recovery afterwards when I cant get my hands dirty for a while..

To put all that in perspective recently my wife's much newer Citroen required me to replace the whole rear axle including suspension including making new brake lines + re-building the turbo and new oil pick-up and sump...to get it through the MOT !!!.....and I can already see I've going to have to do some serious welding for next years MOT.... from an engineers point of view If you want to see a car built to the lowest possible cost buy a Citroen.

Hope fully ( crosses fingers and every other appendage he can) the Jag wont be as bad as that....I do love the way the X-type drives... even though I cant use full boost..... yet ......so I'm sincerely hoping I can keep it reliable enough to use as my work run about for a couple of years at least....time will tell.

Welcome to the forum greenestate,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Once you get on top of the missed maintenance items, the X-Type should easily take you beyond the next 100k.

I can see you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/
to find other members in your region.

Good luck with the Op and enjoy the forums.

Graham
