And since it seems unfair to drag this thread back up without anything of substance, have a teaser photo of something I was going to wait to reveal but I'm quite excited about: custom oil temperature, pressure, and boost gauges designed to match my factory instument panel, made by New Vintage USA. The quality is fantastic - the paint is silver like the factory gauges, and I haven't had a chance to compare the backlight color but it looks pretty good from the photos they sent of them illuminated.
I'm planning on some custom dash work to mount these but that can come after the engine has been rebuilt. As for why I got them: I'm not putting this much time, effort and money into rebuilding this engine without having some sort of a telltale as to if it's going to break again!
If anyone else is interested (though you might want to see how the dash gauge mounting goes first, lol) I'm sure they've kept the design files to make more.

so took appart my jaguar 5.0 sc. and found that in the end was Nothing WRONG, EXEPT RUST IN CYLINDER BORE STOPNIG ENGINE FROM TURNING, SO WILL HAVE IT HONED A LITLE, AND USE THE SAME PISTONS AND PROPABLY RINGS ALSO, TOP gaskets will go new, And will try couple, MY PROBLEM NOW IS TIMING TOOLS, any info as to where one can order those, Jag said they would couple my engine, AT 108 USD PER HOUR!!! 23 hours of work!! Fuc....... them....... will try it myself

Thanks man - just to give an update - life is incredibly busy outside of the car with a wedding, job change, immigration-related stuff and everything else, so the engine has been a bit neglected BUT it's ready to be rebuilt now, I just need to find the time (hopefully in a week or two).
Slight issue comes in the form of the shop that the car was being stored in was sold to new owners last week - I only found out from a friend who also had a car in storage there and went to visit before he planned to tow his car to Seattle. I went down there yesterday with him and the van/car trailer and felt the whole thing was too sketchy for me so we pulled the car out and back into my garage at home, which if anything should improve the rate of progress. I can easily get the engine into the car in my garage at home - transmission would probably require a lift to do it in all honesty so if the shop is still around under the new owners when I'm at that point I'll consider towing the car back down there to put the trans in (or just pay someone to do it at that point if I have to).

Hi,
I have the same engine on my RR SC and now in progress of finishing timing chain replacement, I replaced timing chain, tensioners and belts and after I assembled it back it shows misfires in cyls 2-4-6 and idle is rough. I hope I will fix it soon, so if you need any help with computer diagnostic or so - let me know) Will be happy to help.

Thanks for that video! Looks like he had exactly the same issue I did with spun conrod bearings. Almost looked to be the same rods that spun too, but not sure on that.
Of particular interest is the timing chain guides shown at 8:13 in the video - his old one is on the top, the new one is on the bottom. The circular "hole" in the top one is not supposed to be there, and is the result of the infamous timing issue with the landrovers/jaguars that's been talked about a lot here recently. Mine had the same issue. What's interesting is that this seems to be being fitted into a facelifted XFR, and I thought it was only the 2010-2012 engines that had this issue - guess his might have been an early one?
BTW, the build up of my engine is imminent. I'll hit the thread with pics when I can. Sadly there may be a slight further delay as I haven't been able to clean up the block or head gasket surfaces properly and I'm worried about them sealing with the Cometic MLS head gaskets I've got for it, so I'm looking at getting the block and heads resurfaced before assembly. I may be overthinking it but I don't want to make a mistake I only have to tear apart and rectify later down the line.

Sorry it's been so long - progress has been (as usual) SLOW, although I at least had an excuse, as I was busy organizing this:

I purchased a new windage tray to modify to fit the ARP main bearing studs. Bench drill and a good HSS bit sorted this out - you can see where I broke through the aluminum on one of the holes but this is OK - filed it out and it's just another small hole in a plate full of holes Interestingly enough Jaguar have changed the design of this tray so it's slightly shorter.

I got a great deal on a brand new oil pump on eBay but as it was for a Range Rover (with a different sump) the pipes on the back were different
So I cleaned up the old backplate from my oil pump (since it doesn't contained any parts that can have worn) and swapped them.
Oil pump and brand new supply pipe fitted
New pickup pipe fitted
Fuel pump cam fitted

I have an engine shop in Northern VA repairing my SC 5.0 engine. He claims he is going to rebuild my engine and will take 3 weeks. Reading all of this, I'm seriously doubting it. I may go with a low mileage engine and have someone replace the timing chain. 🤔
