Fan Control Module

Fan Control Module
Hi Guys,
My wife's 2006 X Type 3.0 V6, fan keeps running so I replaced the fan control module twice. However, the new fan control modules don't seem to be working.
The first one they said was only for a 2.5l so I returned that and got one that says it is for the 2.5 and 3.0, but that one fails to work as well.
For both of the replacement units the fan never came on. Even when the car temp passed the middle. I didn't let the car run much after the temp got to this point, but it sounded like the fans tried to shut on, but couldn't. However, when I put the old one back in it just runs at high speed. This lets me know the fan motors are fine. So now I am at a loss.
Anyone have any ideas?
Pictures are first the side of the old control module, the new control module and the old control module.
Thanks,

nj-jag: Do an advanced search of this forum for "Fan Control Module" by user "Thermo". Fortunately I haven't had to replace this part, but many have because the electronics fail with heat & age, so used fan control modules are frequently bad for that reason.
I assume your coolant level is correct and the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor working properly. If the coolant drops below the ECT sensor, hot steam from the low coolant tricks the ECM into 'thinking' the engine is too hot and instructs the fan control module to run the fans at full speed even after you turn the engine off.
This forum has many posts on this topic, because it's common for our aging X-Types.

From everything that I have read on the forum, it is my fan module.
I did the trip button and the multimeter tests and they both point to the fan control module as well.
Since the fans are running I know that fuse F40 is working. I also had the fan running with the car off and pulled F16 and the fans continued to run. This again is pointing to a fan module.
The units that I purchased and that didn't work were supposed to both be new aftermarket units, not used units.
Has anyone successfully used an aftermarket module?
Thanks,

Ok. Just finished trying my third fan control module. This one was from a 2006 x type and was supposedly tested for 14 days prior to me receiving it.
I installed the new module and the fan didn't come on at all, with AC on full blast and I let it run until the temperature got passed midway. Still the fan didn't come on.
Replaced the old module and the fan immediately started, but at full tilt.
The saga continues.
If anyone can think of other things to look into it would be appreciated.

Have you checked the electrical, and cleaned the connectors? Make sure everything is plugged in correctly. My replacement unit wasn't plugged in correctly which caused my fans to come on with the ignition.
You could repair the one you have or ask someone to fix it. Make sure the electrical is ok, Thermo details this out in this or another thread.
This stuff can be frustrating, eliminate one thing at a time. I'll keep in mind a source.
