LED park lights and brake lights change

Hi can I very politely ask why change out the bulbs?
Only reason I can see is the improved brightness.
I have never driven in your country but are you saying that the poor level of eyesight over there needs cars to have such bright lights?
Over here improvements in driving lights is frowned upon by testers.
I see you even improve the interior lighting. Perhaps this has something to do with the poor eyesight theory
Don't think I am having a go I am not. I just don't understand.
We in the UK now have to suffer new cars with daylight driving lights, What's that all about? If you cant see an oncoming car in perfect daylight you should not be on the road. Or perhaps is there a universal deteriation in eyesight! beats ne.

Couple of reasons. One is longevity of LED bulbs (never going to change one for the life of the car in most instances, hence LED in new cars and Laser in Europe). Another reason is U.S. drivers on the whole (flew to destination, then drove 2,000 miles per week, 48 weeks/year for 40 years), are terrible drivers. Very aggressive, pre-occupied, dis-courteous, etc.
Anything that draws attention (yup, did just add DRL light bars in front) gives you a small edge in other drivers seeing you. Also we have lots of wide open spaces in the U.S. with no highway or road lighting. I would hazard a guess, the state I live in (1 of 50) is close or larger than your entire country.
AND, I'm old, so get off my lawn you whippersnapper!! :-) :-) :-)

U.S. =
There were an estimated 40,100 motor vehicle deaths last year, or a drop of 1 percent from the prior year.
U.K. =
Some 1,792 deaths were recorded in road traffic accidents in 2016, up 4 per cent on the previous year and the most since 2011.
So we have 22+ times the deaths (not INJURIES) from cars and even if you factor in population differences (i.e. per capita) driving in the U.S., you still have many multiples more chance of death, much less injury just driving here.

Yep possibly because we don't dazzle folk with our superbrights.
Whippersnapper??? I have children about to retire!
Thank you though for your replies I just didn't realise what poor drivers you all are.

Many of us change them for a better reason. The X-Type has a very poorly spec'ed wiring system (thanks, Ford).
I can burn 160 watts (with the voltage drop thanks to the skinny wire), about 12.7 amperes, OR I can use 39 watts (keeping a standard lamp for the turn signal), or 21 watts if I change the turn signal and accept hyperflash as normal on my dash---but lose the bulb out indication.
Some folks use the LED turns, but add resistors to "fix" the flash...waste of effort, because the resistors will use more current than the bulbs they replaced.
Every current Jag uses LEDs right from the factory, so the engineers must know something!
Oh, and stock LED replacements are NOT an MOT fail except for headlights.

In the US there's an assumed picking order on the roads. Those with the most expensive, most prestigious cars get the most respect or consideration when negotiating right of way. In big cities, with so many cars on the road, LEDs can be a real asset. Vibrant turn signals and HIDs go a long way towards being seen, considered, on the Hwy. when changing lanes, or when turning in busy intersections. Natural selection sort of stuff. It makes a positive difference.

Hum... have a feeling even the great Brits struggle in similar circumstances. I know Trump disapproves of LEDs in older Jags though.

Compared to the UK, America has more of a culture of customising their car.
Here in the UK it is mainly boy racers that have booming exhausts, turbo dump valves and hid conversion lights in standard reflector lamps, that cause excessive light scatter, and is very dangerous.
As from May, mot's have tightened up on loud exhausts and hid conversions.
Paul.

I quite like the LED upgrades. It certainly distinguishes from the others.
As for daytime running lights, I really didn't see the point of them when I lived in the UK. However, it's a different story in the US and now see their value. There's such varied terrains and climates. Driving through the desert, it's much easier to see an approaching vehicle in the heat waves with lights on. In Boston, we have miles of tunnels under the city and not everyone has auto headlights or bothers to switch them on. Being able to see exactly where vehicles are behind you in a dimly lit tunnel is very helpful when you need to navigate across 5 lanes.

I think you have it backwards. Here in the states we enjoy our personal freedoms..
Well I'm glad I don't live in the UK with your ridiculous emissions regulations and the queen getting her panties in a twist if you remove a cat on your own car!
in the US some choose LED lights simply because they want them and are free to do so without divine intervention.
Personally, I concentrate on more meaningful upgrades such as eliminating emissions that ruin a car's performance.
Is it true they can take your car and sell it at auction for removing a cat there? That's insane!
