Default 2002 Sport, p1121

Went to my job, came back out about 10 minutes later. Upon startup, the car was running rough. Threw the failsafe message. I always connect my obd2 to monitor temps, so right there I scanned codes. Which gave me the p1121. Turned the car off for like a minute. Started it back up, and got me home with no problem, no failsafe. Car hasn't done it to me in almost exactly a year ago, then today. I'm not even complaining.
119k miles, if that matters.
What all do I need to check?

Brandon

The code indicates a throttle position sensor failure. I would remove clean and polish the throttle body connections then clear the code and see if it returns,
There is a TSB about replacing the pins in the connector for the throttle position sensor plugs.

Take a browse thru the "How to" section for th x308 and see if you can find it. PM me I think I have it stored somewhere.

The 02 cars have the updated gold pin connectors, more likely dirty or worn tracks within the sensor, they do wear out and cause plenty of failsafe issues.
ASI rebuild them fortunately

Good stuff guys! Before unplugging the throttle body connections, do I disconnect the negative side on the battery? Nice to know 02 cars have the updated pins, thanks Sean! Who is ASI?

Can we buy separate throttle position sensors? What about pedal position sensors? Where is the pedal position sensor located? Haven't diagnosed anything. But I am about to clean the connections. I assume to disconnect the negative cable before doing so?

If I end up needing a TB rebuild, is there a way I can be sure of that? When they rebuild it, do they give us new a throttle position sensor and pedal position sensor?

Cleaned the throttle body connections, only saw 3. Yes, the TPS does have gold pins. Is it me, or the TB looks to have been replaced or rebuilt? I say that because of the white markings. And it's pretty clean.

On to some pics.
