Retrofitting LSD into V6

I'll be interested to hear what others have to say on this, but here's what my dealer mechanic told me:
Jaguar USA will not allow their dealer mechanics to do it, but it should be doable by a third party mechanic. However, here's the deal breaker. The part is a $6000 (US) part at warrantee replacement cost; retail is likely even higher from Jaguar. If you could get the part number from Jaguar, you might be able to get it cheaper from the OEM, but it still sounds like it's a pretty pricy component.
I was interested, because it's probably the one thing I wanted most from the upgrade to the V6S. I'm more than happy with the power and other driving dynamics of the base car, but that is one item that I thought should be standard in a $70k RWD sports car.

Cambo, $2200 sounds more like what I was anticipating. As I said I was reporting what I got from my dealer mechanic as my first point of inquiry. Maybe he was confused, and was quoting the cost of the e-diff on the V-8. At any rate, I was not planning to do the swap anytime soon, since I'm fairly certain that JLR would use it as an excuse to void any warranty claim I might make on a power-train issue, so I took it no further.
For future reference, where did you get the part number from?

Quite possibly, and other things like the cruise control might not work either. Since I threw a close ratio locking tranny in my MINI several years back, cruise control only works in 3rd gear (useless).

Curious why you think this is so? Do you think the computer system is that sophisticated to be constantly monitoring the ratio of transmission drive shaft RPM to rear axle RPM and faulting if it does not meet 3.15 within a tight enough tolerance that 3.31 is a fault condition? I'd be surprised if that's the case. Also struggling to understand how a LSD swap would affect cruise control. At the end of the day, they're both purely mechanical devices.

I can't explain it either. The issue isn't with the LSD though, it's with the ratios. A number of those folks installing '05-'06 close ratio gear boxes in '02-'04 MINIs lost use of cruise control (except in 3rd gear), and it happened to about half of those who did the swap. That said, none of us had any issues with the car going into limp mode.

Have a read here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...ids-sdd-77299/ it's for the earlier model cars but the same would apply.
Basically changing the diff ratio without adjusting the software throws the car into limp mode.
This would not be the case with the manual transmission though...
