My first diy post on this forum and 1st major service on my Jag. I've done many tranny oil changes on bmw e39 and Infiniti Q50 before.
My X260 comes equipped with the ZF 8speed auto transmission. There are plenti of videos on youtube on how to do the oil change and oil pan.
I used Valvoline MaxLife multi vehicle full synthetic oil and a ZF oil pan from autohausaz.
After 3 oil drains, 5qtrs each (1st oem fluid, 2nd and 3rd valvoline fluid) I dropped the pan and replaced it. I added 6oz of Motorkote friction modifier lubricant and 6oz LubeGuard atf booster protectant.
I used a harbor freight hand pump to pump the fluid from the oil jug into the oil pan. ZF says service to the 8speed tranny should be done around 50k to 60k miles. No oil lasts forever. You pull down this harness/clip to clear the way for 2 bolts holding the pan. The harness stays there hanging,no need to disconnect the cables. 2 - 5qtr oil jugs. I used a total of 3 jugs + 1qt The fill plug was very tight. 8mm hex Drain plug is 10mm hex Pan bolts 35 torx Heat shield bolts 25 torx ZF oil pan Factory ZF oil pan The filter is integrated into the pan
Appreciate this thread and the steps with pictures!
My XF 3.0 manual shows a 144k mile change interval.
I had called ZF 5 years ago..
ZF techs do not recommend exceeding 100k km on the 6hp but can't find their forum opinions on the 8hp.
Thank you for the picture. I will do the differential soon also. Here's a link for fcpeuro diy for the ZF 8speed, which is way better explained. I believe they say ZF recommends changing the fluid/filter at 50k miles. But remember that no oil lasts forever. https://blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-chan...d-transmission

I'm about to do the transmission and I would like to do the transfer case and differentials as well on my AWD 2019 XF S 3.0 SC Gasoline. What transfer case and differential fluid did you end up using? There's no approved that I can find but I would like to avoid having to go to the dealer. I'm having a hard time even finding a recommended. Amsoil, Valvoline etc all day they have no recommendations. Is it REALLY that special of a gear oil? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I used full synthetic 75w-90 gear oil and Valvoline Multi-vehicle transmission fluid

Ok. I'm using the Valvoline ATF for sure. That fluid is great. Valvoline says they have no recommended fluids for the differential or the transfer case though. You used the 75W-90 for the differential? No issues at all?

No issues with the gear oil. You can buy it at any auto parts or walmart. I dont know about the transfer case.
