Default Help Needed

Good afternoon everyone. When I was given my 07 xjr jaguar in October, one of the issues that I had with it is that the windows will not come down. I've done what I know to do but I'm not able to get the windows down or to even move at all. The red light on the master switch on the driver side is lite up red so there is power going to the window switches. I have checked them with test like as well. I have changed the switch but that didn't work either. So can anyone on the thread tell me what I should do next? Oh I'm getting a code in the GEM saying short to ground in passenger side window. It doesn't say which door window though.

The second thing is the wipers only work on high. None of the other settings work. How can I tell if this is a motor issue, a relay issue or the switch? Any help that anyone can give me on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a common grounding issue. Check all body grounding points but be careful. They are delicate due to the aluminum body.

I'm looking at schematics for door windows; short-to-ground would lead me to think (one of) the window motor assemblies has the short to ground. Each window motor assembly has a ground wire in the connector - its the black one. Checking for short means removing the door card, which is a PITA but not too technically difficult. I would start with front passenger door, disconnect connector at motor assembly, and see if short goes away. If code specifically says "passenger" that refers to front door (rear would say rear).

As for grounds, starting with the major ones, easier, & it might solve things.

Good afternoon Ctsemicon, I hope this email finds you with all things being well on your end. So I went back and checked the code and yes sir it's passenger window that is short to ground. The code is B2196: Passenger Door Window Glass up/down Power Circuit-Short Circuit To Ground. So I will take your advice and remove the door card. Then disconnect the connector at the motor assembly and see what I get. Now if it goes away, what is next, do I plug it back in or how do I further go about trouble shooting? And if it goes away, do you think the other windows will begin to work?

Do you have any knowledge on my wiper situation? If so, please share.

Good afternoon Wingrider, I hope all is well on your end. Hey by chance can you please tell me where the major grounds are? I've seen the one from transmission to frame but where are the others. I've been looking but I guess they are not where they normally would be on American made cars and if they are, mine are gone. So maybe you can point the major ones out for me.

Abonano,

Top of the afternoon too you. Hey can you help me out and give me specific locations of grounds on this car? I have not been able to locate any other than the small ones behind the light fixtures and the major one under the car from the transmission to the frame.

Good afternoon H202steam, I hope all is well on your end. Thank you for the diagram of the ground points. Can you please share with me which ones are considered the major ground points, or can anyone assist on this matter?

Looks like ctsemicon may have pointed the right ground.
Was thinking it might be one under the hood,

Good afternoon everyone, I pray all is well. The 07 XJR that we were given is mechanically doing well. Still have some electrical issues that we have not been able to resolve so we still need some help. So my windows will not go up and down and right now that's one of my biggest issues. One code that stands out is a pending B2196 passenger door window glass up/down power circut -short to ground. Any assistance in this matter would greatly be appreciated.
