Default What is the dumbest engineering design on XK8/R?

I am stupified that an engineer put a $1 gasket on an oil plug above the transmission so changing it costs $1,000+,

Anything dumber than that?

The moronic design of the non-access to the diff drain/fill plug.

The lunatic A/C suction hose that can't be removed with the engine in the vehicle (pre-2002 models)

The ridiculously high seating position in the X100. Was their target demographic 5' 6"?

The fuel tank inside the trunk deserves an honorable mention.

The rear vent behind the rear wheels. It fills up with water even with the plastic and rubber memberane thing that is meant to let air out but keep water from getting in. I assume the fuel tank position is there to keep the weight near the center of the car which would be better for handling.

The rear screws of the thermostat housing. I relented and gently lifted the intake manifold, fortunately without issues. I replaced the housing with an aluminium one and used hex cap screws on the rear. Problem hopefully solved for good.

Honorable mention: the hydraulics operation of the convertible top latch, with the prize going to green showers.

The entire hydraulic system for the convertible top operation. A true Rube Goldberg medal award winner....

The front shock mounts. That they have required re-engineering by forum members speaks to their **** poor design.

Upper control arm bushings. Design OK, execution fail.

Plastic plumbing parts.

Cup holder anyone?

The infotainment system is archaic for a premium car, released in 2015!
- Why no bluetooth music streaming?
- No outside temperature display on most of the screens? It should be selectable.

Adaptive cruise control was an option on a car that has a heated steering wheel & heated windshield.

Why aren’t settings like, seat memory, mirror position, time, window setting, remembered when the battery is disconnected?

Wrong car! We're talking X100, released in 1996.

The gold medal in this category has to be the "pollen filter", fortunately rarely installed, requiring 4-hour labor to replace. On the flip side, Jaguar seemed to have communicated these facts very poorly to the filter manufacturers, making availability, at least for a time, cheap and plentiful.

Somewhat distant second to me is the higher-then-necessary position of the windshield wipers at rest, braking the otherwise clear line of sight to these gorgeous front fenders. Then again, being a British car, I could see where wipers remaining at rest is a rather rare occurrence. Or so I am told.

Why do you say the control arm is a fail?

Radiator expansion tank hidden behind wheel with no access.
Fake gauges.
Heater hose that requires removal of intake manifold for replacement
Almost impossible to reach fuel lines on fuel tank
