Default Front License Plate Holder

Hello Everyone!

New member as of yesterday ☺️👋🏽 I have a 2017 Jaguar F Type R. I haven’t mounted a front plate yet, which is required in NYS, and I’ve been counting my blessings every time I drive her and fly under the radar. I’m paranoid all the time though and who wants to go through the nonsense of getting pulled over anyway? So, my question is for all of you out there that have bought a holder that does NOT require drilling. I’ve been eying 2 brands on Amazon: the Sto N Sho and the Platypus. Reviews on Amazon aren’t very helpful because it’s a mixed bag. So here I am!
I hope I can get some good recommendations from you all! I thank you for your time in advance as well as any recommendations or experiences you may have had 🙏🏽🖤

A number of folks here have the Sto n Sho and recommend it. I have a tow hook bracket, which I install for the annual state inspection, then I remove it. MA also requires the front plate, but no one seems to care other than inspection sites. I was nervous for the first couple of years too.

I thank you DJS for your response .. I just bought this Jag last year with only 8k on it and barely put 1k on it, but just would rather be on the safe side. Even if I throw it in my trunk until I get pulled over. Someone said on Amazon that it’s isn’t really noticeable (the Sto N Sho) when the plate isn’t on. So maybe I’ll just do that.
If thats the one that most folks have on here and the one you’re recommending, I’ll go for it!
Thanks again!

+1 on Sto and Sho. Top quality, very easy to mount (remove and replace one bolt), and you can remove/replace in less than 10 seconds. Plus you literally cannot see the mount holder when the plate is off (tucked underneath front lip).

You will get over it.

Think of this: Having no front plate is a MUCH lesser offense than 'flying under the radar' <---which obviously didn't work for you if you got pulled over for 'enthusiastic driving'

So give the LEO the opportunity to write you for no plate instead of speeding infractions that might trigger an insurance rate increase.

Thanks Thunder Dump and Carbuff2 - I just placed my order for the Sto N Sho! I’m thankful for the replies here in this forum. I feel more confident buying this plate holder now.
Perhaps I should have used different wording when I said I was flying under the radar. No, I haven’t been pulled over. I don’t have a heavy foot, and I adhere to the speed limit. I just meant that I’ve managed to get away with not displaying a front tag thus far, and don’t want to push my luck any longer. Had been on a quest to find something that didn’t require drilling into my grill and it appears that this Sho N Sto is it, so I’m happy.
Thanks again for everyone’s input and just as I’m closing this, my notification for Amazon just popped up to say that it shipped!

I think you will be very happy with the S&S. I am and what I do is run without a plate and keep the S&S in the car. If stopped, and I have never been stopped in over five years, I have my story prepared that I was at a car show and removed the plate and forgot to put it back on. I will then promptly go to the front and mount the plate. I have no idea if this story will work but I am ready with it. The S&S is great because it fits under the front lip in holes already provided on the car. A five minute job. An added plus is that you cannot see the receptacle and you can angle the plate as you like. Some photos of with and without.

Thank you GeorgeIII for the support and opinion as far as this SnS goes. Also for the great pics! Mine is black too but without the chrome accents. Well, except for my rear tag holder. It’s chrome and a bit of carbon fiber. I appreciate the with and without. I also laughed at your ready to go “story” that you’ve held on to for the past 5 years 😆. Funny. I was thinking of just keeping it in my trunk until it happens and just say I forgot all about it because I don’t drive this car as my main car 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’ll keep your story in mind though too as a back up 👍🏽

+1 on Sto N Sho. It installed super easy. If you “accidentally” leave it in the trunk of your car and happened to get pulled over for it, just say you forgot to put it back on after washing your car.

Default Sto N Sho, the way to go! IMO

I have a 2017 that I've had since 2020. It came from state that must not have required a front plate, because there wasn't one, nor was there any sign of drilling. I drove for 3.5 years here in Wisconsin, does require a plate. Got stopped in the 2018 Corvette for not having one. Not my car, so spouse put one on.
I decided that better to take control of the situation and if I had to pay out money, be it for a SnS rather than a citation.
I bought the SnS because, for the 2017, it's a one bolt install. You can't even see the little bracket unless you bend down and look under. The little pull-ring is easy enough to attach and remove the plate holder.

All the info you need!

+1, would also recommend S&S. Just installed mine yesterday and it couldn't be easier. Bolts to a factory mounting point, no drilling needed.

Angel, Last time I looked my car was dark sapphire blue....

I do very much like Sport Engineer's excuse of the car wash. If the car is clean, which it usually is, I think I will use it. If it doesn't work I will just send Sport Engineer the bill. Perfect !

Sto n Sho for sure. If you don't like to have it mounted all the time you could just say "but officer, I just had the car detailed and they must have forgot to put it back on"

I also leave mine in the trunk. I'm in a two-plate state but mine has never been on the car since I bought it, which was Nov 2022. Never had an issue and never been stopped but I must have forgot to put it back on when I washed the car.

I AM REALLY CRACKING UP at ALL of these comments 😆🤣😂! This group is the BEST! So glad I joined yesterday! I’m putting all these “reasons” in the memory bank and not sure any LEO may believe I just left a car show, and so the car detailer excuse may be the ticket (to possibly get OUT of a ticket) 🫣. I LOVE everyone’s comments and suggestions here. I also feel so much better that I ordered the SnS holder. I’m one of those that does a ton of research before I purchase something and this forum by far really just cut that time and energy in half 🖤. Thank you everyone!!

My state doesn't require a stinkin' front license plate and I'm unaware of any problem that has caused in at least the past 30 years.

You’re lucky your state doesn’t require a front tag Sassy. I wish NY would adopt that too. I see plenty of cars without front tags AND super dark tints on both windshield and driver/passenger windows. Not sure how they get away with it - well actually if you have a doctor’s note, you can get away with tints. I know inspection stations will get fined for passing illegal tints on the car they’re inspecting w/o proper documentation. Back in the day I liked tints if done properly, but now? I prefer to be able to see 🤓!!

We don't have safety or emissions inspections either. I personally feel they are unnecessary and a gross waste of time and resources.

...until maybe you get hit by someone with little or no brakes and mostly nonexistent tire tread, which I TRULY hope does NOT happen.
