Default Radar Detectors vs. Solar Attenuating Glass

Seeking clarification on the use of radar detectors in later model F-Types.

Don't want to buy an expensive paperweight.

Seems some were produced with solar attenuating glass, and some were not.

Others have a heated windshield thrown into the mix.

Is anyone with a LATER MODEL F-Type with a heated windshield having success with a radar detector in the location shown in the owner's manual?
(see below)

BEST !

I'd SEARCH or ASK on a Radar Detector Forum.

Been there, done that but the jury is still out.

Sent a photo of the window label/bug to UNIDEN as well.

The consensus is to see if anyone with a late model F- Type is having success or failures with the unit in the RFID spot, then see if they also have a heated windshield.

That isn't the RDF consensus.

The heated windshield wires are running through the entire glass area, including the RFID area.

The RDF consensus seems to be that these tiny wires will have a tremendous effect on the detectors capability to see out the front.

I was hopeful that maybe someone here on the FORUM with a later model, heated & solar attenuating windshield model could share some actual results before dropping $699 on the R8

I haven't seen anyone claim that regarding the Jaguar windshield. https://www.rdforum.org/threads/139344/

Drive to a parking lot with an automated door, then test signal strength holding the unit in the spot dictated by Jaguar. Move the detector out of the spot and observe any signal change. Compare both interior positions to holding it outside the side window, as this will be unobstructed.

With the data above you can decide if you want to keep the windshield mounted unit or return it back to best buy.

Would radar detector behave differently to a toll transponder?
I use a transponder in that position without issue. Not a heated windshield.
Since the area is small you would likely need to choose transponder or detector.

I have solar and heated windshield and couldn't get my toll tag or radar to work in that position. The toll road authority ends up reading my plate and billing my account several days later.

Looks like the same page from the F-Type owners manual.

That said the heated windshield wires are present in that area, as in the obvious sheen that can be seen with the polarized sunglasses.

Based on Crash808's report above, I thought the matter was closed and that these two items would seriously affect RD performance.

I've also seen at least two different types of windshield glass on two different F-Types of the same year (2023)

photos below.

Now I'm even more confused.

What's the aversion to testing for yourself? A toll tag isn't exactly going to work the same as a detector horn.

No aversion, other than my 2004 Valentine One died recently (R.I.P) and at the present time I do not own any detection device.

A decent suggestion was to buy a Uniden R8 at Best Buy and test it out in the parking lot against likely false signals from door openers, however that's not going to really tell me if it will work in practice.

Rather not waste $700 on something that may work, may not work or may function marginally.

The next step up is a hard wired system, professionally or either self installed.

Not rushing on this purchase, just need to get it right.

Preference is the R8 windshield mount, but I'm not going to go that route if it will be providing marginal performance.

Testing it in the parking lot as I described will tell you a ton.

I had a uniden, could never really get it to work properly in the f type. If I recall at the time, I searched this forum and it seemed like a mixed bag on success.

We have a 19' with the solar and heated glass. My Valentine One Gen2 works just fine in the areas by the mirror. I put my toll tag on the sun roof and it works fine there.

That's a good idea on the toll tag. I'll try that!

Like @crashxx I also have a V1G2 clipped to the driver's side visor towards at the very end pointing at the laminated area. No other mounting hardware required.

Works well since I never flip the tiny visor when driving into the sun and doesn't block my view.

I also use JBV1 with crowd sourced alerts and WAZE for additional "belt and suspenders" redundancy.
