Default Need help sorting fact from fiction 2017 3.0 sc

Hello. 1st of all I love this XE, however at 43k miles the inevitable coolant issues have begun. Is the 2 piece metal pipe replacement any more reliable than the upgraded oem plastic hose? Is there a certain brand better than others if I go with metal? Lastly, does anyone have a list of parts needed (like SC gaskets and all)? Thanks so much!

Ryan, a metal piece is not going to be as sensitive to thermal cycles as plastic. So, a metal piece will take the engine getting up to temp and cooling back down much better than any plastic piece. So, upgrading to the metal pieces is going to be money well spent. I could give you a list for a 3.0L supercharged motor for an Xj, but it is my understanding that the XE uses a different 3.0L engine than the Xj, so, my list would not be of any help to you.

Pretty sure it's the exact same engine in the XE as in the XJ, and that engine - the AJ126 - is the same right across the whole JLR range.
For example, this listing from EuroAmp for the two main metal coolant pipes lists a whole swag of Jags from 2010 to 2023:

OzXFR, thanks you for proving me wrong. For some reason I had in my mind that the XE's 3.0L was part of the Ingenium engine line. Granted, this now wets my lips to possibly toss a supercharged 5.0L under the hood of a XE. I know how much fun the 3.0L was in that car with AWD as I got to test it out to its limits on a track. But, there are many other projects that I have dreams of building too. Maybe one day it will get built.

Sadly there is only one way to get an AJ133 under the hood of an XE and that is to buy a Project 8!

Or lots of work. I am sure with enough determination you could make it work. I Think making it AWD would be the hardest part as the AJ133 transfer case is supposedly limited to 458 hp (from a contact I had in London).

Doesn't sound right, the last F-Type R AWD has 575 hp and the Project 8 (600 hp but possibly more) is also AWD.

While I do love that Project 8 I can only imagine how difficult it would be to work on? Smaller car than the XF/XJ/XK which did have the V-8 as a normal option. So a smaller engine compartment that was not designed for a V-8. Maybe you drop the entire drive train out the bottom to work on anything?

You'd need to beef up the entire drivetrain in order to replace a 3.0 SC V6 with a 5.0 SC V8. Jaguar had to replace the transmission in the 2023 F-PACE SVR with that of the Project 8 just to be able to reliably handle a few more horsepower. And the mechanical changes are probably the easiest. The engine and transmission ECUs interact with so many other computers that the programming would be a nightmare. Furthermore, 225mm or 235mm front tires will become totally ineffective in anything other than a straight line. I say that because on a few occasions I've managed to easily exceed the limits of the front tires on our 2017 XE 35t Prestige AWD with the 340ps that the car had. And 255mm or 265mm rear tires probably won't help traction much in the way of preventing burnouts when stopped or at speed with 500ps+. Just my opinion.
