Default Convertible not working XK8 2001

Hello guys

Need some help here
Roof was functioning perfectly until water came down the trunk and damaged my security locking module
I replaced the SLM and configured the key fobs and ny lights and locks started working again.
I pressed on thr roof button and the beep sound came out, quarter windows downs and that was it.
now quarter windows do not go back up. I press on the roof button but only the beep sound goes out.

I am assuming the BCM is not recognizing fully the SLM.

I havent tried a hard reset yet by unplugging the battery and connecting both positive and negative together for 15min.

do you recommend doing this first and if it doesnt work, should I try to manually operate the roof open and attempt to close it with the switch?

I have few pictures of few of the trouble codes on the scan.

Help is much appreciated.

Do you know if water got onto the pump at all? I know it’s tucked up and away but,
Check fuse #12 & #14 in the trunk with the key on. Those power the pump. Oddly enough if water took out your SLCM, there could be more going on in the trunk. Unplug the pump motor and check for continuity. You can also check for power and ground at that connector that feeds the motor with someone starting the car and operating the windows while you look at the meter.

I will look into this as well. Do you know if anything needs to be done post installation of SLCM for it to be introduced to the roof operation?

The only thing I’d do is with the top closed, time both door windows so it does the whole drop down while the door is open and back up when the door is closed. Other than that, that should be it.

Since you got water in your trunk, I’d *highly suggest* checking out this link and doing it.

Tried a hard reset with battery, manually opened the roof and closed it still the roof is the not operating through the switch.
also inspected the pump and connectors and seem to be receiving contact.
What is stuck still are the quarter windows.

If you don’t have a voltmeter, at a minimum you’ll need a test light to check for power and ground present at the 2 wire connector while someone else operates the top. There is one other way to test it but, it’s too risky and I don’t want anything bad to happen.

Did that and power is confirmed
I am starting to doubt the SLCM since it was bought and installed recently, serial number are matching the previous version but not the Vcat.
I did program the key fob successfully however having doubts whether it is communicating well with the BCM. Do you think it has to be programmed ?

No, it doesn’t need programmed to the car. I believe only the engine management computer and possibly the instrument pack are the only two that needs a handshake.

Was your replacement SLCM pulled from a convertible?

Michael, that’s actually a really good question. 👍

Seeing as he said there’s power and ground available at the pump, I have to guess that there’s likely a motor or valve issue. However, this is a good guide for him to go through to diagnose the issue. I’m going to assume that there’s oil in the pump reservoir but can’t hear anything from it.

If the SLCM is from a coupé it won't know about the top functionality (BPM & SLCM work in concert to execute this).

When I read that the VCATS did not match I was not going to bother responding. (no point)

The VCATS IS the software configured to the module!!!!!!!!!!!

SLCM from sedan or coupe will not be compatible.(it will bolt up and plug in but not operate properly)

I’ve read on multiple threads that as long as the serial number matches it should be fine.
the SLM belongs to a convertible, or at least that was what was told to me while purchasing it.
It is almost impossible to find the exact match with VCAT and no way to program them here in Dubai.
What do I do in this case?

Default The pump and quarter windows are now working BUT NOT the convertible

Hello everyone

some updates on my convertible and SLM dilema.
I have sent it to a convertible specialist here in Sharjah (UAE) who has apparently worked on similar models in the past.

The quarter windows and pump are working after changing some wiring, however convertible top is still not operating through the switch.
the mechanic is suspecting that the signal is not received to the SLM.

In order to proceed by elimination;
Assuming the SLM is not from a convertible donor, would the quarter window still operate? In my case I can lower them.
serial number is identical to previous version below.
