'99 XJR Value?

'99 XJR Value?
We're thinking of selling my wife's XJR - too many vehicles and just not getting used. Anthracite/Oatmeal with 36,000 miles and nearly flawless - interior wood and leather is untouched/unblemished and paint is original/unblemished save a few dings on the front bumper cover. Fuel pumps, headliner and tires (Pilot Sport) are all recent. Any good guesses what this is worth in the current market, and would it be worth my time to replace tensioners and guides before selling (I've been meaning to do this for the past year at least but with so little use I haven't had the motivation)? Appreciate any thoughts.

FWIW, before buying my S-Type I was looking at various X308 models. Not having the updating timing chain stuff was a deal breaker for me on several cars that I would otherwise have made an offer on.
I'm not sure if doing the updates would add much market value to the car but it might make it easier to sell. I'd consider it a real bonus.
Of course, buyers who are not familiar with Jags wouldn't know one way or the other unless they did a little homework ahead of time.
As for pricing I saw a range of $6000 (fair condition) to $15000 (extra nice examples). Those were asking prices, of course. Actual sale prices, I dunno
Others will chime in
Cheers

Definitely do the timing kit and make sure its documented that its been done (buyers will ask). Then maybe list it on Bring A Trailer and see where it goes. Over the last couple years there have been some very nice very low mileage x308s in BaT that did quite well. At 36,000 miles and in the condition you describe, you might have another high dollar car.

Not familiar with Cars And Bids or Bring A Trailer - this old fart would have probably listed in Hemmings. Thank you both for the info - I'll look into those sites.
I just pm'd Motorcarman regarding tensioners. I sourced the wide chain guides along with OEM tensioners - trying to understand how one can purchase a kit including chains, tensioners and guides for $98 (cheapest kit on PartsGeek) when the OEM tensioners alone are $300. Certainly don't want junk but don't want to waste money either.

Doug: I'm including a link to a piece on both Cars and Bids and Bring A Trailer. The CAB site has the attraction for sellers of no fees as the winning bidder pays a 4.5% fee with a minimum of something like $225 up to a maximum of $4.5K. I get the sense that after several years of higher than usual prices that auction prices for our Jags -- and I include the X350/358 line -- are beginning to flatten or slightly decline. There was a low mileage '08 or '09 Super V8 that went on one of the sites two or three months ago for I think about $56k, with a second one a week or so later at $45k, both going to the same buyer and from the same seller -- a Pennsylvania secondhand luxury car dealer that scours around for good cars and then auctions them. One site, and I forget which, only lists cars it has pre-screened for quality. I think the CAB outfit seems to lean to more supercars and hot rods, while Hemmings and BAT lean to a more normal cars, with Jags appearing slightly more often on the Hemmings site. Prices are such on BAT that it is sometimes called "Bring A Trustfund." Best of luck with your undertaking.

eb - thanks for the link - will certainly follow the sale - the '03 with the later wheels is my favorite of these cars. You'd think the owner would replace the J-gate and clean the seat leather before selling - otherwise looks like a nice car.
H-C - I have done this on our other XJR - that was a transplant into an old Mark 2, so I had the luxury of working on the engine on a stand which made the job a lot easier. I do have the cam lock tools, and plan to again borrow the crank holder and puller from the JCNA tool loan program. If I recall the SC engines require an extension on the holder to fit a deeper crank pulley than on the normally aspirated engines. Thank you very much for the offers.
