Harper Jag & Carl Stephenson -
I can't say enough about the quality of service that I received from Carl at Harper. Conscientious, patient, smart & knowledgeable, thorough & empathetic and very fare prices to boot - without question, the best service I have received from a parts department of a jag dealership. Strongly recommend!

Always nice to give a shout out for going beyond and giving extra. Especially someone who knows our cars are older and difficult to to get correct parts at times. Sounds like your man is quite experienced with our years of cars. Hard to find willing expertise like that. Post a pic of your finished work when you can. I bet your pride factor jumped when you drove it and everything was spot on

Thanks, Scott! Very fulfilling! & without the help of so many like you and Chris & suppliers like Harper and Redhorse, & the internet, it could not have happened. As great as she runs and looks, I'm still not done. I still need to afix the plastic bulkhead, the cabin air box, windshield wipers, etc.
Unfortunately my schedule is not going to allow me to get back at it for at least a few weeks. In the interim, I do hope to scan the Forum regularly in the off-chance I may be able to contribute.
If time permitted, I would really like to get a project car. Something like an older car pre-EPA. However, I think it was Thomas S. who said I need to think about changing transmission oil, etc.
Best,
Steve S.

'The problem is....' too much increase in population, ergo traffic density, with too little retention of driver alertness, competence, avoidance of drugs, alcohol, texting/chattering, other distracted driving.
It isn't the EPA goods.
Consider a "project" about as far back as one would dare drive on modern roads - a real or replica Morgan, Jaguar SS 100, Alvis Speed 20.. AC .... Shelby Cobra...
What we'd rather NOT give-up is the parallel evolution of proven-safer passenger capsules with crash-safe fuel tanks and really good all-around air bags!
Bottom line?
A great project car that can keep up with modern traffic, work HARD to keep you and the family ALIVE even if some other fool screws the pooch and badly??
All-aluminium Jaguar.
X350.
Just five more years - at age 25, here in NOVA, DEQ emission testing exemption kicks-in, and I can even swap-in a durable GMC, Chrysler, or Toyota V8.
...Or Jaguar's own inline DOHC 6 ....
Otherwise, my ideal "project car" would be a Hudson 'Big Boy' 3/4 Ton pickup truck, as the Rover doesn't have squat in the way of space for hauling stuff.

So true, Bill.
We have ParkPlace Motors here in Bellevue. It is a car lover's Disneyland where Bill Gates & others amongst the tech illuminati purchased and sold "exotic" cars back in the day when they were mostly human. I picked up a 96 MB sports car with 1500 miles for my wife's 53rd. It was being brokered for the Microsfty in charge of creating the Office Suites software; can't remember his name. Story was that he only had room for 6 cars & this one had to go! He had recently built a house near me &, I question the story because I counted room for more than 6!
But more to your point, ParkPlace had a cherry '67 Healy MkIII available at the same time. Since I had owned an identical one in my youth, I was sorely tempted. However, the idea of not having disc brakes, etc., and driving on the increasingly savage Seattle area streets dissuaded me. For the years I have left, I believe my X-350 will sate my gearhead proclivities - at least as long as you fellows are around!
Carpe diem,
Steve S.

Recall assisting a Brother Engineer Officer @ Ft. Belvoir who had a brand-new 1966
Austin-Healey 3000 Spark III. We TRIED to find a way to re-route the "expat" exhaust system.
"Expat" as it wasn't contained within the borders of the motorcar, proper!!
There was a young man from Boston
Invested his dough in an Austin
There was room for his ***.
Ten gallons of gas,
But his....... 'pipes' ......hung down
... and he lost 'em.
Repeatedly, even!
