Default Brush replacement disaster

My heater water pump is intermittent so I decided to attempt to replace the brushes while I was flushing the coolant. The first setback was figuring out how to unplug it. It took way longer than it should have. But then when I was installing the new brushes I was attempting to install the springs in the back of the metal can when the little flap that I bent up to insert the spring broke off while I was trying to bend it back. There's not a lot of room for that spring with the full length brush installed. I think trying to lift up the rotor and pushing the brush through the front while compressing the spring might have been the way to go, but that would be difficult too. So now it I can't figure out a way to hold that spring in I'm screwed. JB welding some paperclips across the back maybe.

Maybe wrap the spring / brush carrier box in thin copper wire and soldier ?

Ultra thin copper wire can be obtained from the extension cords at a dollar store ?

use flux to get it to wick better

I'm going to try JB Weld and a couple of thin paper clips. I considered solder but I wasn't sure I could get enough heat with my iron.

I see your layout and ...........................

Aluminum can cutout with scissors from a beer can , a square C shape

The inter surface of the can will have a coating to remove before soldiering

Hold in place ( while soldiering ) with a string ( wire to be clipped off later ? ) wrapped around the whole thing including around the other brush carrier
