Are the headlights of the Jagge ( X350 XJ8 2004 ) glass or plastic?
The lamp glasses should be polish and I went to change the windshield some time ago and at the same time I asked them if it would be possible to grind and polish the lamp glasses and yes it would be but it was quite expensive in my opinion.

I had the idea that the lamp's glasses were glass, but the windshield repairman looked at the lamps and said that he thought they were plastic and if they were glass, they wouldn't be so gray and scratched.
That's why I'm asking that if there is plastic, have any of the forum members polished jagge lamps themselves and with what substance and was it an easy job.

I have seen e.g. Turtle and some other products suitable for the purpose in local car supply stores, but are they good for the purpose in question or should the job be left to a professional and should the style be done correctly with some sanding paste and really fine sanding papers and plenty of water.

If there is glass, then you can hardly use a substance or package meant for plastic glasses.

Plenty of products out there for reconditioning the acrylic headlights, from mildly abrasive creams to multi-grade sanding discs - Just depends on how bad your headlights are to start with.
Just be sure to apply a headlight sealer/UV protectant afterwards (probably every 12-24 months to protect the acrylic and make your efforts last longer, as you will be removing the old fogged UV coating during your cleaning process).
Many of the 'higher end' over-the-counter headlight restoration kits have a sealer spray included.

The lenses are probably made of polycarbonate (brand names Lexan and Makrolon), the same material used to make eyeglass lenses, Compact Discs, DVDs, camera and phone housings, etc. A small percentage of headlamp lenses are made from impact-resistant acrylic, but most are made from polycarbonate because it is more durable and more shatter-resistant.

The kit I have used successfully is made by 3M. You start with 500 grit sanding discs on a power drill and work through progressively finer grits, then to a liquid polish on a foam applicator disc. The secret is to take the extra time to remove all haze with the 500 grit before moving on to the finer grits. The finer grits then go very quickly and it is easy to achieve optical clarity.

And ditto on h2o2steams great advice about the sealer/UV protectant. The restored lenses will yellow fairly quickly if not protected.

Cheers,

Don
