2003 supercharged clunk when accelerating
Hi I just got a 2003 supercharged jag on the lift it has 60k on it , looks like it is in good shape , when accelerating has a loud clunk when you accelerate and let off then hit loud clunk ,, when I checked bushings and u joints everything tight except for one lower shock bushing ,
However it had an extreme amount of play in auto transmission to driveshaft , like splines internally are worn out , Has anyone had this issue? like I said it is low mileage when I move driveshaft back and forth I hear loud clunk and it sounds like it is in middle of transmission like a main shaft to spline , is this common issue with this car?what actually wears? I thought maybe it was driven hard but because it is a supercharged convertible , but even so with only 60k just seems premature to have so much play there , I was expecting to find a u joint or flex disk or bushing , but play is in auto transmission , any ideas >>????
ps I just did a timing chain on his other 1999xj8 and that one had 160k on it , i did reput that one on lift and that one does not have play like this one , I did put it back in air to compare them , and remember the 99 had 100k more miles then the supercharged one , thanks for any advice , I am a mercedes and bmw mechanic m only worked on a handful of jags LOU

Hi whiskermouse123,
It is always helpful if, in addition to the year, you share with us the model and engine details. What you are describing does not sound normal, but without knowing the model and engine (which will tell us the transmission make and model), it is difficult to provide detailed replies.
Cheers,
Don
