Default Rear Subframe

Well after replacing all the front and rear control arms and calipers etc I bought in new bushings for the rear subframe as the fronts had rotted out, the rear bushings look ok but I am not taking chances.

I just got in new bushings front and rear for the rear subframe however, the frame has a lot of surface rust and corrosion. When checking it over and cleaning some of the rust off i found some holes and the frame just isnt that good.

Having looked on ebay all the second hand ones i found you could see the corrosion under a thick layer of black paint and they look like crap.

Found one on a breakers site thats near mint condition for a fraction of the price including vat and shipping so I am waiting for that to arrive.

Pics of one of the rotted bushes and the frame and the replacement dusty frame comingw ith the new front and rear bushes sat here waiting already.
will also have new subframe bolts.

One of the rotten rear subframe front bushes.you can see how rusty the sbframe is too.

Dusty replacement frame near mint will fit new bushes

Replacement frame new bushes already waiting to go in.

From an online breakers website. Only paid £379.20 this includes vat, shipping etc l, the part is coming from Spain.

I am replacing the subframe bolts, fitting new anti roll bar bushes along with new cover clamps, bolts, nuts. New diff seals, blasting the brace frame and powder coating it. I have already recently fitted all new rear arms etc and new calipers. So a few new crush washers for them and a couple of little things and all will be good. Having a week to get it all done.

The rain in spain - probably why it's in good condition.

When I replaced the subframe bushes with custom solid ones, I powder coated everything as well, though mine was entirely rust free, I didn’t anticipate ever removing it again.

I did look at other options for bushes however, I got a full set cheap and I only have a few weeks until the MOT here in the UK. So a straight swap out is the quickest option for now. When the new frame comes on I will give it a real good clean and give it a coat of por15 before fitting it.

Is the front subframe ever an issue. Ie the engine cradle?
