Default Cylinder numbering (4.2L)?

Bear with me, working from my phone-can't find or get a diagram to load showing cylinder numbering.

Can someone help me out with a photo that shows for 2003 V8 base model?

One important question,

How do I know if I have current 2003 or newer AJ V8? What if it's possible that I have engine manufactured before 2003 even though my car is listed as 2003 it could have been manufactured in 2002 and have a 2002 engine. Where is the 4.2 l only made in 2003 forward?

How ? Because you have a 4.2 not a 4.0.

Most of the world got a 2002.5 model, which introduced some significant changes to the S-type. The 2002.5 model (X202) went to market as a 2003 model in the U.S.A.

The big question is whether you have a pre- or post-facelift model. That cutoff point is when the major changes occurred, not specifically the date of manufacture. For the most part, the model year (2002 vs. 2003) is a something of a marketing designation.

Does your car have the 5 speed transmission? Then it's pre-facelift. 6 speed? That's post. If unsure which, look at the shift lever bezel. For a pre-facelift car, the number at the aft left corner is 4, and D=5. Post-facelift, the number at the corner is 5, and D=6.

The 4.2 S-type only came with the ZF 6 speed box.

His post mentions it's about a 2003 4.2 V8 base model.

I've got 5 on the left of my automatic shift column. D=6.
