sorry for the bad pictures and not showing the wood. the new xj has the most wood ever used on any jaguar. just look at the inner door panels. the wood trim is huge and the wood trim starts in the rear of the car and wraps around to the front to meet top of the dash board where it says Jaguar

I got to see the 2011 pre-production cars in person earlier this week. Pictures don't do them justice as a lot of stuff doesn't turn out right. You just have to see them. Here's a link to my writeup:

I cannot believe that the NEW Jags place the Leaper on the TRUNK! Cheap-cheap-Cheap! You spend 60-90K for a "car" ya think that they could put a LEAPER ON THE HOOD! Cannot tell its a Jag from the stupid BADGE on the grill ... Just a shame! I have heard the explanation "line" from the dealers as "it was a safety factor to remove the leaper from the hood" ... THAT IS PURE BS. If someone happens to be in front of a moving Jag, the leaper is not going to be any source of bodily injury. The grill-hood-windshield will do the damage. Maybe they can try to cut-costs by eliminating those components as well in future models. ... NET, I am keeping my 2001 Vanden Plas as the ultimate post 9-11 Jag as a tribute to the US when we had stones and when Jags had leaper hood ornaments.

Great looking car! I would love to have one but can't get my mind around the new car when my heart is still with the old one. Time will tell. Hope Jag is successfull with the new design.
When visiting the 3 jag dealerships in range of my abode they look like morgues.ie, nobody around, lots of vacant offices and and no excitement. I could just cry for them. Meanwhile, over at the local Hyundai dealer, i'ts standing room only and a high voltage atmosphere. A sign of the times and temporary we all hope.

Jaguar has two emblems, and each is a version of its totemic animal. Their informal names, the Leaper and the Growler, suggest two aspects of the British company’s tradition. The Leaper is a long, lithe cat, usually seen as a hood ornament; it signifies feline grace. The Growler is a full-frontal cat face, its teeth bared aggressively; it represents raw power.

also in UK the new XJ has airbags under the hood so if you hit someone the hood at the hing point will lift 5" up. again UK laws. the hood most be 5" from the top of the engine. Jaguar uses the airbag system so it can have a lower hood profile. its no cheap but it look good. that why you see benz and bimmer's with huge hoods.

they removed the leaper cause in england people did get hurt by them. there are more cars hitting people is uk them USA. so thats why its not on factory cars anymore. but the leaper is a dealer add on. so yes new XJ can have a hood leaper.

I wonder what the XJ would look like with a leaper on the front.

True guys. Right from the very begining of the S1 XJ series we have not had leapers on the cars, for the reasons you mention. A low speed accident involving a leaper or other protrusions such as bull bars does cause more serious injuries.
As a Brit it always seems out of place to me when I see a leaper on anything other than a classic Jag and as for putting them on an E-Type 'Please'
