Grant,
I've searched all over for an answer to this question but can't find anything. The lack of information suggests it can't be an issue and 4 Star Unleaded must be OK.
Having said that, I have a track record for destroying XK 4.2 straight sixes on a number of Series I and II in my youth and that was using 5 Star!
The usual way to counteract low grade fuel is to retard the ignition. If it's pinking on your current fuel, then retard gradually until it clears.
If there's no categoric answer posted here, take the question to XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for a wider audience.
