Default Advice on best route from Edinburgh to Inverberg

Hi

My wife and I are spending 3 days in Edinburgh during bank holiday week, after 2 days in Newcastle, then we have a day driving to Inverberg on Loch Lomond.

I want the route to be nice driving roads and to see the best of the Scotish landscape. (Hopefully with the top down).

Just from perusing a map and the streetview on Google earth I was thinking of crossing the Forth then taking the A823 past Gleneagles.
Then the A822 and A826 to Aberfeldy.
Then A827, A85 and A82 to Inverberg.

Any guidance from those that know the area, re best route, best views, best lunch stop, and any places to visit would be appreciated.

Regards

Obviously the quickest / easiest route would be along the M8, through Glasgow, then up the A82, but by the sounds of it you want the richest experience in terms of scenery / attractions and best driving roads?

You could always take the M9 past Falkirk and The Kelpies, onwards to Stirling past The famous battle of Bannockburn, you'll see both Stirling Castle AND The Wallace monument from the motorway ( or you could always try and fit in a visit?? )

The turn off onto the A84, you'll pass Doune castle, that's where my mother was from, Doune, not the castle...lol
Back onto the A84 headed for Callander ( a beautiful little town in the foothills, very touristy, lovely, a great place to stop and smell the roses, perhaps lunch?

If you have lunch there, back onto the A84 heading North and you'll see of gods own country, absolutely beautiful. You'll pass Loch Lubnaig, through Strathyre, past Lochearnhead which then becomes the A85 to Ciranlarich.
Then take the A82 towards Glasgow and you'll see most of Loch Lomond too.....some truly beautiful country

Yes that'll be a longer route for sure, but you'll see some really cool Scottish tourist attractions, some stunning scenery ( especially if you get good weather ) and some great driving roads

Hope it helps buddy

Make sure you get to Scotland with a clean licence!

I did Newcastle to Edinburgh and back earlier this month for the first time in about twenty years. With the number of speed cameras on the A1 north of Berwick it'll be another twenty years before I go again.

The A68 looks the better option from Newcastle to Edinburgh nowadays unless you want to go across to Lindisfarne on the way.

Thanks for all the advice. Just got back from 2 nights in Newcastle, 3 in edinbough and one on loch lomand.
We went via Crieff, Aberfeldy and Loch Tay and enjoyed every mile.

Oh and from leaving edinbough, through the highlands and comming back to south yorkshire only 2 speed cameras in 440 miles.

Always. Unless its raining or below about 8C. (OR THE WIFE SAYS SO!)

Luckly in 6 days it only rained for the last hour in the highlands and the motorway drive back.
