Default Anti siphon device

Does anyone have experience with anything like this?

https://www.marinesuperstore.com/eng...xoCQuAQAvD_BwE

I admit I was sceptical that my petrol was being stolen, my XJ8 is only used occasionally, and I assumed leakage, evaporation, senility, but over a 12 month period I noticed at least a half dozen occasions when my usage did not equate to the fuel gauge. I had the tank pressure tested, I started using a mileage app, and I started to give more credence to the idea of theft. That was confirmed when I bought a locking cap, which I discovered broken on the filler neck last week.

So, my question is whether the device above will prevent a hose. I can see how it would work, but assume it requires a ribbed or corrugated inner surface for the filler neck. Anyone know what the inside of a 2001 XJ8 fuel filler neck looks like? Anyone got any other suggestions for prevention? I’m going to install security cameras but that won’t really solve the problem. For now I’m just leaving it empty and filling a can as required.

thanks for reading

I can't comment on the effectiveness but have you considered a guard dog?

I used to lock the beautiful twin chrome filler caps on my 1970's era XJ's until one was forced open with a crowbar wrecking the cap and the rear wing. All for about five gallons of petrol. I've never locked a fuel cap since and prefer losing the odd gallon of fuel to the alternative of very expensive damage. Replacing an X308 filler box would not be cheap.

A few years ago someone thought it amusing to let down two tyres on my XK8 Coupe every few nights. With no other deterrent action taken, this stopped it entirely:

I've ordered some surveillance equipment, it was already on my to do list, this has just given those plans more impetus. I might well consider a sign like that as well though! Currently leaving the tank empty is the best solution, I'm also a bit nervous about provoking some sort of over-reaction from the thief.

Thanks for the responses though!
